Another Climate "emergency"

This is a response to an article entitled " Lessons from inside the heat dome about the future of the electric grid" published on Utility Dive.

It seems like every time the weather gets extreme, people start screaming "climate change" . I grew up in Boston in the 1960s when most people didn't have air conditioning and somehow we survived without blaming it on the climate. And while you're correct about the life expectancy of the power system, large portions of it have been rebuilt and modernized over the years. And If you think air pollution from combined cycle power plants is bad, you should have been here in the late 60's before the EPA was formed: we have come so far since then. Not that we should stop, but we have made tremendous strides since then.

Articles like this keep beating the same dead horse: batteries and solar panels. Battery technology is still a long ways off from being a viable and economical alternative to turning shaft generation and solar panels still don't produce energy after the sun goes down.

We still need combustion fueled generation in the near term to augment the deficiencies from non-dispatchable generation. Or not... in which case, stop complaining about the lack of air conditioning and open a window; that's what we did.
