The Swiss Society of Spinal Surgery (SGS) is proud to announce that the 23 rd Annual Meeting will take place in the thrilling atmosphere on the ice of the Lonza Arena in Visp on the 25th?of August, 2023– in many ways allegorical to medicine and spine surgery being on the ice in our modern society!.
In this way SGS follows a logical thread: After a successful 2021 Meeting in the old industrial city of Winterthur (machines and metalwork) the SGS board had decided to move to the city of Calvin (strenuous hard work and innovation) and now it’s time to go back to the roots: despite modern machinery and computers to get up on the “Horu”, as the Matterhorn is called by the locals, you need to rely on your skills and training in evidence based climbing – you can go new routes but you may fall and that may be the end of it. So we will take the presenters and our guests onto the slippery slope of the ice ring at the Lonza arena to see what has stood the test of time and can be scrutinized by hard evidence and facts: Cause if we as the SGS won’t do it, someone else may – insurances, governments. You can’t convince someone to pay for you go up the Matterhorn on an uncharted route in a different way unless you have a very good evidence to do so – and to have this, it makes sense to ask Top guides. If you do surgery differently, you may as well convince the spine guides that we have invited that you have good evidence to do so.
So we all look forward to a chilling and thrilling experience on the ice of evidence in the Lonza Arena in Visp.
As a warm up training before the climb on Friday I want to warmly recommend the SYNS meeting the day before to all of you – Why do we operate at all? What should we all know about implants???About evidence? Renowned speakers will prepare you as if Loulou Boulaz, Walter Bonatti, Matthias Zurbriggen and Alexander Huber all together would prepare you to get up on the “Horu”.
And of course – you work hard and you want to play hard- so do take the advantage of our cultural time-out in Leuk, under the moon and the Leuk Castle restored by Mario Botta accompanied by fine music, wine and dine – take enough of the famous magic potion from the Wallis to prepare body and mind for an unforgettable event!
On behalf of the SGS Board and SYNS I do look forward to meet all the participants and sponsors in Visp!
