Annual employee engagement results
rascal systems | enabling retail efficiency
Intelligent, frictionless data and technology solutions for the retail industry
Ahead of the results of the annual employee survey being published there is always a twinge of nervous anticipation. The survey is anonymous, so we hopefully get a good and true sense of how people are really feeling about working at rascal. I am always grateful to read the feedback, both the positives but also the suggestions of where we can continue to improve. Last year, staying true to our values, I published the results for all to see. In this short article I will share some results from our most recent survey, and highlight what has changed
Friendly: Culture and Workforce
Once again I am most proud of the results that demonstrate the strong team culture and work ethic across the business. When employees feel valued, supported, and empowered, they are more likely to go the extra mile. 95% of the rascal team said they feel and observe respect at work, with 100% saying they trust in their line managers. Trust and respect in the workplace are core to the success of any business. Our customers also benefit from the positive culture and mindset, with 100% of the team saying they are determined to deliver their best effort every day - this is the second year in a row we’ve returned this result and this consistent excellence is a great achievement. Additionally, 100% of employees feel that colleagues willingly help each other in times of need, and 100% feel we embrace diversity and inclusion.
Agile: Areas for Improvement
The annual survey helps to highlight areas we can improve. We are continually evolving and adapting to the ever-changing economic environment. The rate of change, evolution and forward thinking at rascal, demonstrated by everyone, never ceases to amaze me. Managing and communicating that level of change and why it is happening in a coherent manner is a challenge that we continually work on and strive to improve. 74% feel we’re doing a good job here. The work we are doing in this area is already showing signs of improvement. Our quarterly business updates are viewed as positive unanimously across the business. I would like to hope that this in turn leads to greater understanding of change, as well as improved engagement in this area, across the rascal teams in the weeks and months to come.
Transparent: Communication
As I said last year, clear and open communication promotes teamwork and collaboration in any workforce. This sense of real collaboration within teams is a real point of success, with 100% seeing this as positive. One of the areas the survey highlighted for us to take a closer look at is cross-team communication, with a below average (but still creditable) 77% thinking that is working well at the moment. We have certainly been running at pace on multiple projects in the past 12 months which may have impacted this slight downturn. Given that backdrop, it is pleasing that everyone in the business feels like they have good access to the senior leadership group when they need it.

Furthermore, 92% of colleagues agreed that we understand who our customers are and what they expect of us. While this is a slight decrease from last year, it still represents a strong endorsement of our efforts, and we continue to strive for improvement.
