ANNOYED?slightly angry; irritated.
?I am annoyed.? Being annoyed came to my attention when Lynne celebrated her last birthday.? I gave her a birthday card that spoke of the ten things we are allowed to do as we age.? Thus, we initiated a conversation around what annoys me.? It went so far that I started making a list, as I am really bothered that so many things annoy me.? I am currently over 100 items that annoy me.? I am sure if given the time the list could grow to over 200.
To be perfectly clear, I am not mad, angry, or shaken in any way regarding my annoyed list.? Some things on my list cause me to laugh.? As example:
I am annoyed at overdone Halloween decorated houses.? Where I grew up in the 1960’s Halloween was celebrated for one day, October 31.? Now it is a month long event.? A few houses in our neighborhood start decorating in late September.? Week by week more decorations are added.? One house this year had two twelve foot skeletons, a hearse drawn by a skeleton horse, accompanied by two skeleton dogs.? The next door neighbor had a skeleton coming out of grave telling each person passing, “Beware, they did not bury me deep enough.? When I get out I am coming to get you!”? These bring a smile to my face each time I pass even as they annoy me.? The smile comes from something I have often heard yet no nothing of what I have been told, “Sometimes people over compensate in other areas from which they lack.”
I am annoyed at unkept yard landscape.?? Both of our Arizona houses are in communities with homeowner associations.? Yard maintenance is clearly defined in the?Declaration of Covenants, Conditions, and Restrictions.? I am less than perfect as I maintain both properties.? I do my best to keep the yards weed free.? We could increase the watering of the yards, yet we live in the desert.? I am sure I annoy my neighbors with my trees that often look dry and near dead.? We do our best to monitor the health of the trees, watering when necessary.?
I am annoyed by people who cannot control their canine.? Jude and I walk twice each day, early morning and after his dinner.? Frequently, we see a dog approaching us that is out of control.? In one recent incident a Jack Russell Terrier was so out of control that as we approached it continued to jump up and down, five to six feet, while the owner held on to the leash.? Another instance, the muzzled dog was out of control, the owner pulled the dog off the desert path, striking the dog repeatedly.? When I said, “That is no way to control your dog.” his reply was, “He is only wanting to play.”? Jude was out of control on a leash when we adopted him.? I used 5 calorie Milk Bones ?, and single word commands, “quiet” and “sit” to teach him control.? People need to be trained on how to control their canines.
Creating a list of over 100 things that annoy me might indicate that I enjoy being annoyed.? Initially, it really bothered me that so many things annoy me, therefore the reason for creating the list.? Then I had this epiphany, “My values are my values.”? That is to say that my values are mine.? Agree or disagree, your values are your values.? If you choose to grow weeds in your yard, that is okay.? It is not my place to preach my values, expecting you to change yours.? That is the reality of why I can smile knowing that there is no right or wrong when others choose what to do, as long as it is legal and morally acceptable.? Further, this above also applies to attracting the right prospects and generating more referrals.? My values are the tenancy of INTEGRITY.? I place these values on every prospect that comes my way.? As example:
Years ago I used swear words in my every day conversation.? In 1994 I was not happy with who I was, thus I gave up using curse words in my communications.? Recently, a prospect came my way using curse words in casual conversation.? With a desire to help this person, I decided against offer my services due to the foul language.
As we get older our beliefs get stronger based on what we observe that we determine is right or wrong.? The good news is we get to choose.? I will continue to be annoyed and so can you.
