Announcing Perspektive Ausland

Hold the front page!

The reason for so doing is because I have breaking news of yet another podcast.

It’s called: Perspektive Ausland.

As you might have guessed it is a German language media venture. Launching this autumn it will be the premier podcast detailing and discussing all aspects of international tax and expansion from German-speaking Europe into English-speaking Europe – Ireland, United Kingdom and Malta – as well as to the United States. The podcast is what it says on the tin, namely, a German language business show with an international perspective.

Having launched the Apple chart topping English language podcast Move Your Business to the United States it is time now to create an equally appealing and informative product for the Teutophone world. For those of you following these blogs you’ll know I have what the English call “form” when it comes to podcasts. There’s Move Your Business to the United States, plus Factual America and Lone Star Plate. All these podcasts are aimed at very different audiences and all of them are picking up listeners right across the globe; this is entertainment combined with marketing, information plus fun, high quality audio as compelling as it is interesting.

It is clear to me that podcasts are one of the principal media products of the next decade. In 2020, 37 per cent of Americans are listening to podcasts on a weekly basis, that’s up from 25 per cent three years ago. In the UK today that figure is touching 25 per cent and growing. For Germany the figure is much lower coming in at around 16 per cent but what that tells me is there is a market out there if one that is not being catered for. In regards to audience share and revenue the trend is the same everywhere. News podcasts have the highest ratings and the most revenue – followed by comedy!- but business podcasts come in a close third. This does not surprise me; and this is precisely where Perspektive Ausland comes in.

The podcast will have contributors – business, political, academic - from Germany but also from Austria and Switzerland. In fact, other contributors from Europe and beyond are more than welcome. Now Perspektive Ausland will have a serious and sober side. There will also be an on going analysis of the state of affairs within the European Union, with the focus on Germany at the core of this. But it will also examine and explain the benefits of moving one’s business horizons (and/or one’s residence) into English-speaking Europe and the US, something I have been doing professionally for years at St Matthew, the accountancy firm I founded here in London in 2006. I am convinced that good businesses in Germany can become equally successful in London, Dublin or wherever they chose to operate from. We at St Matthew have long established networks in Britain, Ireland and Malta. Therefore, it is only a matter of sharing some of that expertise on air in an as engaging and attractive way as we can and as much as tax and law can ever be!

And here is something else: we’re hiring! We need a bilingual host and also a producer/editor for Perspektive Ausland. So if you are reading this and are interested or know someone who may be, well, we’d like to hear from you. Just PM me here on LinkedIn. Of course, we will be advertising in all the usual places but I mention this because I’m eager to get going with my latest media venture – I almost wrote ‘adventure’ so excited am I by all such media enterprises.

When was the last time you were excited by your business ventures? That leads me to the other announcement this week – I know, we’ve been busy! – and that is for the forthcoming St Matthew Academy. This will be a multi-media entrepreneurial experience that reveals a radically different approach to helping people take their business to the next level. And that level is not just in terms of turn over and profit but about expanding the business horizons of those participating in that academy. It is not so much as giving the tools to people as sharpening them or in some cases unearthing those tools they already have.

There will be more on this in due course. For now, in these uncertain times throughout Europe and across the globe, I want to remind those with whom I do business and those whom I have not yet had the pleasure of meeting why it is they have come into the world of business. Yes, it is to make money. But it was never just that. Right? Making money is one thing, but the thrill of planning and executing a business plan to make money has an altogether different satisfaction. I want to help recapture that excitement for my clients and others and then use that newfound energy to focus existing business acumen on new markets, new horizons, and possibly new worlds.

But, as I say, that’s for another day. Today it’s hoist the mainsail! As St Matthew’s first podcast Perspektive Ausland sets sails for new lands and all they promise.
