Our Interim function has evolved alongside (and complements) our established Executive Search service, a result of customer demand and the market conditions we’re seeing in these unpredictable and challenging times. The volatility of many of our key markets means niche and senior interims are a sought-after resource for customers facing continual transformation and change.??
About our Interim Search
While many of the organisations who come to The Thrive Team for help are finding it challenging to hire permanent staff, they often need additional support for projects too, be that interim leadership, readying an organisation for a buyout, restructures, implementing new technologies or processes or building a function. This means hiring specialists with niche skills who can deliver a project, sometimes to demanding deadlines.?
To meet our customer needs in the best possible way we’re providing an integrated solution: we identify and engage the specialist individuals they need whilst minimising the?worrisome administrative burden, which often includes the complexities of prompt payment, compliance and IR35. We’ve partnered with 3R to provide robust back-office solutions that ensure interims are paid within 48 hours of submitting an invoice (regardless of client payment terms) and are engaged compliantly. We’ve found that our established skillsets and valuable experience come to the fore in our interim hiring assignments: we use search techniques to find outstanding interims who can fulfil a brief and provide the quality our clients need. That quality is an essential component of any executive search and I do not believe it is any different for interims, who fulfil a valuable role.??
Interims: a role we know?
Interims need to build trust quickly in order to be effective, and this is something each member of The Thrive Team understands from personal experience. As former interims ourselves, we’re well-placed to understand the unique excitement, challenges and opportunities of the role.?
One of my more memorable experiences as an interim was helping an engineering firm to seize control of an internal recruitment project that had lost momentum. I needed to develop an understanding of the business mission, markets, people and of course the status of the project in order to produce a strategy to deliver successful outcomes that met quality and time targets.
It was a high-pressure role. The team I was tasked with building was crucial to future funding budgets and its successful implementation would give the larger organisation the confidence to continue funding headcount growth. Along the way I had to rip up a few things I’d inherited and start again, implementing new processes and strategies. It was a successful project, and it taught me a lot about how focused and strong you have to be when you’re an interim.?
Our Interim Search team, which includes the outstanding Ian Bell and Richard Wenham , has seen both sides of the hiring equation. We’ve garnered plenty of experience managing volume contracts, buying interim and contract services and implementing solutions including massive projects with many hundreds of onsite contractors. We’ve worked with niche experts tasked with delivering specific projects, and, as I mention above, we’ve been those people, too.?
