Announcing Openminded.org

After years of helplessly navigating the complex healthcare, science, and politics of mental illness, I’ve decided to do something that will help to change this narrative. I am excited to announce the launch of Openminded.org, a community of advocates, academics, and entrepreneurs dedicated to making mental health a priority in our homes, work, and public institutions. 

In addition to working closely with NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness), I’ve come to meet many bright and passionate leaders who are advancing this cause through education, community groups, research, politics, and new technology. Learning about all of these initiatives has been exhilarating. It has also clarified that there is no silver bullet for the multitude of societal challenges in mental health. It is going to require a tremendous amount of resources, persistence, and collaboration across numerous fronts in order to really move the needle.

Openminded.org is a forum to share perspectives and explore solutions to one of the most important issues of the 21st century. Opeminded.org will serve as a medium for knowledge and new ideas, which will be shared and debated in order to help these experts get to the best outcome, both individually and collectively. This is about supporting those who are are the forefront of this work, bringing them together, and helping to accelerate the pace of change.

To kick things off, I’m hosting the first event tomorrow (1/8/19) titled “The Future of Mental Health” in Los Angeles with Dr. Barbara van Dahlen. Dr. van Dahlen was named to TIME's 2012 list of the 100 most influential people in the world, and is the President and Founder of Give an Hour, a network of 7,000 mental health professionals that have given more than 265,000 hours of free mental healthcare to U.S. troops, veterans, their loved ones, and their communities.
