Announcing Never Enough: A Navy SEAL Commander on Living a Life of Excellence, Agility, and Meaning

Friends — I'm thrilled to announce that in February, Celadon Books/Macmillan Publishers is publishing Never Enough, my book of stories and lessons about life and leadership. I'm especially motivated to make this a huge success because I'm donating all my profits to a cause I believe in so incredibly, a 501(c)(3) I started that pays off mortgages for Gold Star families (the 1162 Foundation, named after the date President Kennedy commissioned the SEALs — January 1, 1962). To help kick off the pre-launch, I would greatly appreciate your commenting on or sharing (or at least “liking”) this post so it reaches as wide an audience as possible.

Never Enough shares insights and stories from a lifetime of “once-in-a-lifetime” experiences and contains what I believe is some of the recipe needed to help unite and strengthen our nation. I'm hoping to lift people up with my words, and give them tools and ideas to apply in their own lives. I know the book can do that — but most of why I wrote it, deep down, is to alleviate some small part of the burden that several strong spouses continue to bear as they raise their families without their heroes. Thanks to many people's support over the past few years, I've been able to have real impact here, but I unfortunately know of many more serious needs for our Gold Star families.

Everyone who has served knows way too many people who have stepped forward, but paid the ultimate sacrifice. We who have been there live the rest of our lives trying to keep memories alive, and supporting the heroes left behind, the families.

I've been humbled by the early reviews of Never Enough (Booklist says, “Part thrilling adventure tales, part sensible, widely applicable advice for working with a team, Hayes' first book should find a wide audience on all levels of the corporate ladder.”), and here’s the publisher's description and the link where you can purchase the book from your favorite retailer or share it with your friends and networks. I promise you will enjoy the book, and I also promise you can feel great supporting the incredible cause. Anything you can do to help spread the word and get momentum behind this is so incredibly appreciated.

Over his many years of leadership, Mike Hayes has always strived to be better, to contribute more, and to put others first. That’s what makes him an effective leader, and it’s the quality that he’s identified in all of the great leaders he’s encountered. That continual striving to lift those around him has filled Mike’s life with meaning and purpose, has made him secure in the knowledge that he brings his best to everything he does, and has made him someone others can rely on. In Never Enough, Hayes recounts dramatic stories and offers battle-and boardroom-tested advice that will motivate readers to do work of value, live lives of purpose, and stretch themselves to reach their highest potential.

Read the advanced copy. Very much enjoyed the "dynamic subordination" concept--perhaps the next level of empowerment. Have used it, but not often, and without recognizing it for what it was. I have never heard it synthesized. Your description has me thinking about where else I can apply it. Thanks for sharing your insight, Mike. Hope you and yours are well. Happy New Year and good luck with the book.
