Announcing GridEdge Intelligence

QualityLogic has been working diligently to develop GridEdge Intelligence, an information portal focused solely on the application-level protocols – e.g., OpenADR, IEEE 2030.5, DNP3, etc. We have just released the first public version of the information service at www.gridedgeintelligence.com and have provided discounted access to the site for early subscribers. Today, the site covers the IEEE 2030.5 protocol along with the basics of DER Interoperability. Overviews of five other key protocols will also be rolled out over the next several months.

GridEdge Intelligence (GEI) is a service created by QualityLogic for the Smart Grid industry leaders who are investigating and/or implementing one or more of the standard application protocols designed for communications with DER and Loads at the grid edge. The goal of GEI is to accelerate selection, adoption, and implementation of standard communications protocols for grid edge resource integration into grid operations.

GEI is focused on answering questions that we are asked everyday: Who creates and manages the protocol? When and why was it created? Where can you get a copy? Is there an industry alliance implementing and certifying it? What is the protocol’s purpose, design, application focus? Who is adopting protocols? GridEdge Intelligence is a single source for information and answers to all of those questions and more regarding the DER protocol landscape.

GEI is not a competitor to protocol alliances like SunSpec, OpenADR, the DNP3 User’s Group, IEEE, or others. It is a complement to these organizations with the intent to help the industry understand and successfully select and implement standards-based communications for DER management.

We are now testing the concept in the market with the first release. Our goal is to see if there is enough interest to make it a viable publication. If you find this interesting, Subscribe today, give us feedback, and contribute to the GEI knowledge base. We are also looking for contributors - if interested please let me know.

If you have any questions, contact me directly at [email protected]. We hope to see you on GEI soon!
