Anna, what do you and your team do?

I’m a Test Technician in our Welwyn Garden City test facility. My role is all about how we can make our products even better.

I’m part of the Engineering Services team, which designs, tests and manufactures our hardware and software solutions.

What does your day-to-day role consist of?

Honestly, no two days are the same - it varies from tests we regularly perform, to testing components on an ad-hoc basis - across software and hardware.?

For example, I might test wheels, motors or the cladding used on the bots that whizz around our automated warehouses, or the Grid structures and peripherals they use.?

I collaborate with colleagues globally - from developers to our international support teams. And I help new colleagues to get settled into their adventures on the team, sharing the knowledge and skills I've learned along the way.?

What was your career path?

Before I got this position, I worked in one of Ocado’s Customer Fulfilment Centres as a Personal Shopper and I was promoted to Shift Coordinator. I was inspired by all of the cool technology in our automated warehouses so becoming a Tester meant I could get closer to that.?

Becoming a Tester was an exciting new challenge where I could learn something new on the job, and use my skills when it comes to precision, accuracy and perceptiveness.?

What impact does your work have on the business and/or our retail partners?

Everything myself and the team focuses on is about making our solutions even better - that could mean more reliable, efficient or cost-effective. By spotting issues in testing, we can solve potential issues down the line - saving time and money. Testing helps build confidence in the quality of our products, which means our technology teams can focus their efforts on innovation.?

What do you like most about your role?

My favourite thing about being a Tester is constantly experiencing and learning something new. I get to use my knowledge and experience to go to other locations and help the teams with special tests or opening new sites. And I have contact with people from all over the world, it’s fascinating.

What would you say to someone considering joining us as a Tester?

I’d encourage them to apply. The work is interesting and there’s a great community feel. We collaborate and share our experiences to learn and support each other. My team is like my second family, which is great because we spend a lot of time together.?
