Ann Meoni, Senior Responsible Investment Analyst - National Careers Week 2022

Another of our long-service colleagues is Ann Meoni. As a Senior Responsible Investment Analyst, Ann’s role is to research and advise on how we can invest in more sustainable ways. We sat down to chat about her career to date.?

"I’ve been with abrdn for 8 years now. When I first joined it was as an environmental consultant. I’ve had a few roles, moving up to sustainability manager and more recently senior responsible investment analyst. When I started at abrdn my job was to reduce abrdns own environmental impact. Now I look at how we assess the?environmental impact of the businesses we invest in.?I didn’t know this sort of career existed when I finished my undergraduate in Geology. In fact after I didn’t really know what I wanted to do. I spent a few years working in hospitality and retail and realised that I wanted to do something environmentally focused. It just something I’ve always felt passionate about. So I went back to study for a Masters in Environmental Protection and Management.?

After my masters I spent some time in consultancy roles, advising clients on sustainability issues. But I wanted to be more hands-on, and working as the in house environmental consultant at abrdn was a great opportunity to achieve that.?

In 8 years, there’s been a lot of change here but working in a role that I love makes it easier. I worked with brilliant people and been involved in really innovative projects. As the sustainability manager I helped introduce the Pawprint app to abrdn. Pawprint is an employee engagement tool that helps colleagues understand their own carbon footprint. It also helps abrdn understand more about the carbon footprint of our people when they are working from home. Working from home might have been accelerated because of the pandemic but hybrid working was already something the business was moving more towards.?

I also helped develop a charitable project called Greenspaces – working with community groups to develop and promote biodiversity in urban areas. Working in sustainability has given me a really diverse career – it’s exciting to be able to support positive change for our world.?

If I had any advice for anyone about to start their career, I’d say make sure that you enjoy what you do.”?
