3D printing continuous carbon fiber in space
We just started a new space manufacturing initiative together with Nanoracks LLC Space Outpost Europe. Nanoracks is a Texas-based company that is providing easy access to the space environment for research and industry. The MoU with Nanoracks will allow us to demonstrate and validate our space-based continuous carbon fiber 3D printing technology in orbit.

Anisoprint has a unique combination of capabilities that will be highly desirable by the space industry. First, the ability to 3D print parts on demand is obviously beneficial, as that eliminates the need for costly shipping and storage of spare parts in space environments. Secondly, the carbon fiber technology produces extremely lightweight — but still extremely strong — parts that would be beneficial. Whereas other systems might require the launch to orbit of metal 3D printing materials, the far lighter carbon fiber would dramatically decrease the cost of shipping 3D print materials to orbit.

What’s the difference between continuous and short fibers?
Chopped and continuous fibers produce different mechanical properties in composites. Ever thought about why plastics with chopped/dust fiber are called "carbon-filled" and plastics with continuous fiber "carbon-reinforced"?
?? The main difference between continuous and short fibers is still in orientation. Short fibers are disoriented during printing, while continuous fibers are always oriented and point along the deposition path.?
