Animating History
Animating History - Marriott on the Move
By now you may have heard the story … in 1927 my parents started a root beer stand in Washington, D.C. Later that year, my mother saw an opening in the business to introduce hot food to the menu… and The Hot Shoppe restaurant was born.
That was the beginning of our company. But it wasn’t just good business sense that has kept us going. I believe it’s the core values that my parents built their company on that have resonated with our customers and associates. For nearly 90 years, our five core values have been: put people first, pursue excellence, embrace change, act with integrity and serve our world.
With these values as our foundation, our company has been able to push the boundaries on hospitality. We’ve been able to attract creative and innovative people who help tell the story of how these principles set our company apart.
We just launched a new web series that bring our core values to life. When I heard our creative team wanted to animate our values, I have to admit I was skeptical. How can a cartoon tell the story of how we put people first? But, let me tell you, these cartoons are fun and even touching. They perfectly illustrate what my parents wanted for this company… even though we change and grow, the values that are the most important stay the same.
Take a look at this first video about putting people first. In what could have been his first and last day on the job, a new hire to The Hot Shoppe finds the perfect fit.
My daughter, Debbie Harrison, is the champion for our company’s culture. She was instrumental in getting our Hot Shoppes story out for you to enjoy. This is a new way to talk about what we stand for and I’m proud of the team who made it happen.

9 年Marriott is a wonderful company with a top notch product and service. We ate lunch at your parents' Hot Shoppes after church all the time. Key Bridge Marriott lounge was always a blast, too. Keep up the great work, Mr. Marriott.
