Animal Farm!

Animal Farm!

Over the weekend, I delved into a captivating piece of teenage fiction called "Animal Farm by George Orwell" recommended by the esteemed late Prof. Anshuman Thripaty of IIMB. Prof. Thripaty drew a parallel between the Animal Farm and the corporate world, where he likened the exploitative nature of companies to the character of "Napoleon" in the story, taking advantage of hardworking and loyal individuals like "Boxer."

Having absorbed the book, I found myself drawing connections between the narrative and the historical trajectory of our own country, from the era of British colonialism to the present day. Here's how the story aligns:

  1. The Rebellion: A profound realization of the need for freedom, unity, and the early days of the freedom struggle.
  2. The Rise of the Pigs: A revolution led by Gandhi and the transformative impact he had on our nation.
  3. The Battle of Cowshed: The liberation from British rule, akin to the freedom fights and overthrowing of colonial forces.
  4. The Seven Commandments: Our Constitution, crafted by the visionary B.R. Ambedkar, establishing fundamental principles.
  5. Snowball's Expulsion: The division caused by Muhammad Ali Jinnah, leading to the creation of Pakistan and attributing India's problems to external forces.
  6. The Construction of the Windmill: The establishment of various institutions during Nehru's era, promoting progress and development.
  7. The Battle of the Windmill: Signifying conflicts with China and the Kargil war, which tested our nation's resilience.
  8. The Betrayal of Boxer: An unfortunate incident best left undiscussed on social media.
  9. The Corruption of the Seven Commandments: The alarming erosion of our constitutional values since independence, evident to the discerning.
  10. The Transformation of the Pigs: The disheartening reality that, despite claiming equality, some individuals wield greater power and influence.

This narrative is not limited to our country alone; it resonates globally. As long as citizens resemble the sheep depicted in the story, individuals akin to Napoleon will continue to exploit diligent government officers like Boxer, manipulate public opinion through propaganda agents(Party workers/religious leaders)/mouth pieces(News Chanels) resembling Squealer .

"Animal Farm" serves as a powerful reminder that democratic systems require constant vigilance and active participation from citizens to prevent the emergence of totalitarian tendencies. Let us heed this lesson and strive for a society where equality, justice, and fairness prevail.
