Anglian Home Improvements Achieves Disability Confident Accreditation: A Step Towards Greater Inclusivity

We are proud to announce that Anglian Home Improvements has been accredited as a Disability Confident - Committed (Level 1) employer. This achievement marks an important step in our commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive work environment, where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.

What is Disability Confident?

The Disability Confident scheme, launched by the UK government, supports employers in attracting, recruiting, and retaining people with disabilities and long-term health conditions. By achieving Disability Confident Committed status, we demonstrate our dedication to breaking down barriers, increasing awareness, and ensuring that disabled individuals are given the opportunity to realise their full potential in the workplace.

Level 1 of the scheme recognises organisations that are committed to inclusivity and equal opportunity. For the Group, this accreditation reinforces our belief in the power of a diverse workforce and our commitment to creating a workplace where everyone is supported to succeed.

Lisa Walsh, Group HR Director, shared her thoughts on this milestone: “I’m delighted that we, have been accredited as a Disability Confident - Committed (Level 1) employer. This demonstrates our unwavering commitment to equal opportunities and strengthens our pledge to be an inclusive employer. It enables us to build on the good practices we already have in place and to lead the way in our sector by tapping into the broadest talent pool, whilst retaining high-quality, skilled, and dedicated people.”

Why Disability Confident Matters

As a Disability Confident business, we are dedicated to tapping into the broadest possible talent pool, enabling us to recruit and retain exceptional individuals throughout our organisation. While progress has been made, there is still significant work to be done to bridge the disability employment gap. Recent figures from Scope reveal that, despite more than 4.7 million disabled people being in employment, the employment rate for disabled individuals is 53%, compared to 82% for non-disabled individuals. This 29% disparity underscores the urgent need for further action towards greater workplace inclusion.

By becoming Disability Confident, we are committed to being part of the solution helping to close this gap and ensuring that disabled people have access to meaningful and rewarding employment opportunities.

Our Commitment to Social Responsibility

This accreditation is not just a symbolic achievement but a testament to the company's deep-rooted values. As an organisation, we have always been committed to social responsibility, and this recognition further solidifies our role as a leader in creating a diverse and inclusive workforce.

?We are committed to continuing to enhance our practices, ensuring that everyone, regardless of background or ability, has the opportunity to flourish within our Organisation.

Sam Alleyne, Head of Major Bids, also reflected on the personal importance of this accreditation: “As an employee of the Group, and more importantly as a parent of a child with a disability, I’ve often worried about my child’s future in adulthood. The journey towards inclusivity is vital, as it ensures that my child, and many others like him, will be recognised, supported, and valued in the workplace. This commitment from the Group means everything to me as a parent.”

Looking Ahead

We believe that inclusivity drives success. We encourage our partners, clients, and the wider business community to explore the benefits of the Disability Confident scheme and consider how we can all contribute to creating a more inclusive working environment.

We are proud of this achievement and look forward to continuing our work towards making our company a place where every individual is valued and empowered to achieve their full potential.
