Is ANGER an Emotion or a Behaviour?
Anger is a negative feeling that is typically associated with hostile thoughts, physiological arousal and manipulative behaviours. It usually develops in response to the unwanted actions of another person who is perceived to be disrespectful, demeaning, threatening or neglectful. Has divorce left you feeling angry?
Anger can be very hurtful. Have you ever experienced a time when you yelled out hurtful words and regretted it later and realized it was too late to apologies? Sometimes hurtful words can change a relationship or friendship in a moment and never be repaired.
After I got divorced my son carried a lot of anger for several years. I couldn't figure out why.
I thought I was doing everything right in raising my children and guiding them in the best possible way I could.
Finding out later he thought I was to blame for the breakup. I left my husband because he started gambling, which led into lies and eventually had an affair.
I never spoke bad about my ex-husband because I always the breakup was between my ex-husband and I. Eventually, I knew I had to tell my kids the truth. I sat my children down and not only explained why I left but I had the information to prove my truth.
When the time is right it is best to let your children know why you ended the marriage. But ensure to address it in a proper manner without angry words or negative comments.
But lets deal with your anger first. It is important to write down your feelings.
- Ask yourself why am I angry. (Is it about me or someone else)
- Be honest
- Tell the truth
