One time I did a 30-day challenge on creating a digital product. At the end, I tried to sell a program about marketing. No one bought it. Why? Because I didn’t align the thing I was selling to the audience I was sitting in front of. Looking back, the right thing to sell would have been focused on completing and launching their desired products. I put connecting the dots in the audience’s hands and it went “womp, womp, womp”. Looking back it's easy to see what I did wrong. It's what I help clients with, but I missed it myself.

It is essential to make sure what you're selling aligns with your audience and your marketing message. They should all fit together as a formula.

Back to my story. I shortened the program to 14 days, charged $47 for it instead of $27, and called it “Create a Course Challenge”. The second cause for your course not selling is not having a positioned audience. When I had my first non-profit in 2012-2015, I only made $535.00 in total. That’s 3 figures in 3 years. $250 came from one sponsor. I helped a lot of people in my non-profit. However, it wasn’t profitable or sustainable because I didn’t have a positioned audience.
A positioned audience is a group of people you have established relationships with who see you as an authority in your field. They view you as a leader and an expert. They also view you as being further ahead than they are. In their eyes, you are positioned as an authority. The second part is that they are a group of people who benefit from your program.
If you’re a personal trainer for busy singles, they are single people who work full-time. If you're a Christian author for teens, they are youth groups across your city. They are your audience! When you have built this group, you have people who are qualified to become buyers.
And again, back to my story, 2012-2015 = $535.00. In 2017 I held a one-day event (my first) and had 10 women in attendance. That event led to $19,000 in sales. It wasn't because I had a big audience. Only 10 women were there. It wasn't because I had fancy technology. My website hadn’t even been created yet, and I technically didn't have any funnels.
I didn’t even have a Square Pay terminal or an online signup form. I had a PowerPoint presentation and a paper signup form. That day was so profitable for me because what that workshop had created was a positioned audience.
After spending the day learning how to map out the way to their first 5 figures, they saw me as the expert. They believed that I could help them implement the plan I had just helped them create. Signing up for my program was the natural next step, and that’s why some of them did.
So the golden ticket to selling your course is not having a huge audience. It’s having a positioned one.
When you combine an aligned course or program with a positioned audience, it’s just one thing missing from your equation to get those signups you’re looking for.

You can have the most aligned offer and have created an audience that respects you and looks to you as a leader, but if you don’t have Pitch Presence, they won’t know how to move to that next step.

Think of a guy and girl who have been going out on coffee dates and talking on the phone for a few weeks. If neither of them ever bring up taking things to the next level and forming a relationship, it will become a friendship. It won’t advance because no one did the advancing.
