Part 1

How I Defined my Life Purpose

?“To teach, nurture and empower others to achieve their greatest potential in their careers and entrepreneurial endeavours."

I lived and used the above purpose for years since my second year at varsity. I worked at it and refined it further. I memorised it and it has become the guiding light i use in everything I do.

In 2019 I learnt about the concept of IKIGAI from Hilary Lindsay which helped me further clarify my purpose. IKIGAI is a Japanese word meaning the “reason for being/living”. It is the point where all aspects of one’s life are in tandem, the “sweet-spot of life”, as depicted in the diagram.

?I have been able to expand my purpose above using the IKIGAI concept as follows:

?I LOVE people and I have a PASSION for learning and nurturing or developing others. I live for the light-bulb moment, that moment when someone grasps a concept. I live for the moment students get their passes and celebrate. I am excited when my protégées, mentees and students’ progress in their careers and life in general. My heart and being is fulfilled and I feel exalted.

?I have made it my MISSION to create learning platforms and solutions that enable many people to learn and achieve their career aspirations. I believe, people and the world NEED education and training to achieve their career goals. I chose teaching and training as my life VOCATION and I believe I am very GOOD AT teaching, nurturing and empowering others, such that it has become my PROFESSION and I am PAID FOR my services as a teacher and trainer of others.

Revelation: Many may be surprise that teaching and training is my profession and not chartered accountancy. Chartered accountancy is my career and not my purpose, it is rather a means and bridge to living my life and not my reason for being. Being a chartered accountant assisted me to identify the NEED of prospective chartered accountants to qualify as chartered accountants, but the teacher in me (my natural God-given talent) took the responsibility to create solutions to make this possible despite the adversity and personal turmoil.
