The deadline to comply with and implement the Quality Control Order 2017, for solar photovoltaic Inverters, has been extended by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) . It will now be June 30, 2023.The Central Government had issued “Solar Photovoltaics, Systems, Devices and Components Goods (Requirements for Compulsory Registration) Order, 2017” on 5.9.2017. Total investment of two public sector companies under Ministry of New & Renewable Energy (MNRE) is 37 % higher at Rs 37,828.15 crore for 2023-24, reports PTI.This is compared with revised estimate of Rs 27,547.47 crore total investment by the two firms Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency Limited Agency (IREDA) and Solar Energy Corporation of India Limited (SECI) for 2022-23. The budget estimate was Rs 28,570.99 crore.

The Union Budget of India was presented by Nirmala Sitharaman, Indian Finance Minister on February 1, 2023. The budget lists infrastructure, investment, green growth, and the financial industry as the top priorities. The green growth agenda focuses on promoting businesses that are sustainable and helping India reduce its #carbonemissions. While all the above announcements are very good and desirable, we would also like to see some additional measures such as extending PLI scheme to manufacturing of wind turbines and electrolyzers, reducing GST on sale of renewable energy components and O&M costs.

India has committed to achieving its #netzero emission goal by 2070. In Tuesday’s Economic Survey, Nirmala Sitharaman, Finance Minister, stated that India has achieved 40% of its installed electricity capacity from non-fossil fuels before the 2030 goal. By 2030, the country’s likely installed capacity from non-#fossilfuels will be greater than 500 GW. This would result in a decrease of 29% in average emissions rate by 2029-30, as compared to 2014-15.
