Providing social care in the Catholic Archdiocese of Birmingham
Tabor House was pleased to welcome the West Midlands Mayor, Andy Street , to the project this week.?Andy met some of our guests and our volunteers.?He got involved as they put up the Christmas Tree and decorations ready for the festive period.
Tabor House accommodates and support rough sleepers and those experiencing homelessness, something which has never been so important during this cold spell. ?With the support of our small staff team and large volunteer team we work with individuals to turn their lives around and move positively forward.?
Andy Street made this special visit to our project to see our community support project which has been funded by a West Midlands Combined Authority grant.?This project matches guests to community support volunteers who work with them 1-1 to help them engage with the community, providing befriending and helping them with steps for move on such as budgeting skills.?
Our guests shared their positive experience at Tabor with Andy and shared some of the reasons that they were there, such as losing their job due to illness and subsequently losing their accommodation.?The WMCA have also provided Tabor House with a small spot purchase fund so we can purchase items for guests to help them individuals with their stay and move on, we have used it for work boots, bus passes, etc.

Andy was excited to hear about our developments at St Catherine’s of Sienna, the new site in Birmingham city centre where Tabor House will be moving to, expanding from 11 to 19 accommodation spaces with a focus on individual rooms for dignity and move on rooms for when guests gain employment.?We are also creating community space and working in partnership with the local parish.?We look forward to welcoming Andy at the opening of our new site in February 2023.
We have secured capital funding for the renovations of this new site through grants, charitable trusts and donations from corporate organisations and other groups.?As part of our winter appeal we are asking for donations, however large or small, to help our running costs.
Your donation will mean our small staff team and larger volunteer team can get people off the streets and provide a warm welcome with dignity and hope for the future.?We have helped over 100 individuals turn their lives around and need to your support to make changes for many more. https://www.justgiving.com/campaign/TaborLiving
