Android Things is coming but how can you keep it updated?
Android is a wonderful platform for making advanced devices: smartphones, tablets, set-top-boxes, smartwatches, TVs, etc.
Recently, Google released the Developper Preview of Android Things, a custom version meant to be deployed on IoT Devices. However when it comes to creating your own ROM or Android distribution, you get the full measure of the challenges you are facing.
We know that keeping your device up to date – for security reasons, major OS updates or new features delivery – is one of these challenges.
By the past, with regular version of Android, we all observed that not all makers were as fast and responsive when it comes to keeping devices up to date. Eventually, it forced Google to implement most new features into Google Play Services instead of Android it self.
But with Android Things, there won't be Google Play Services (at least for now) so it's up to you to be able to keep your version of Android Things up to date.
