I am a native of Benin and I would usually argue with some friends that Benin gave birth to Yoruba. Let’s not argue here. Just read on.

I left Benin because of the sentiments my Dad has refused to reveal till date. I have been able to deduce some meaning from all he is unwilling to say. I understand. If you know Benin very well, you will see reasons with my Dad; why he thought it was a better choice to take us away from Benin to Abuja, rather than allow us grow amongst.... I don’t like to give him all the credit. I would say God had it planned out.

I stayed in Abuja most of my growing up days and when we get to visit Benin, it was once in a black moon. We loved visiting, but we did so on our Dad’s terms. We would announce our coming for Thursday and we would show up on Wednesday.

Benin was known for some beings that you could not see with ordinary eyes. My Dad would tell us about stories of people that flew at night. His stories made me suspect everyone I came across. I was full of respect for passersby; you never can tell who is which. This formed by earliest perception about Benin. And when I had an impression in my heart to come to Benin I was scared because of all I had come to know about my father’s land.

If you were in Benin few years ago, you will understand why I used the phrase ‘so-called ancient city’ to refer to Benin City. Only a privileged few knew what it meant to do business online. The present era has been met with some innovation brought about by external corporations and internal bodies. These have been moved to engage some meaningful partnerships to see that more small businesses are enhanced by means of going digital. One of these engagements would be the one by GetUpYouth Africa, Rabbington Media and Facebook. Some other strong brands were present to collaborate to bring about the training that has left an indelible mark that would continue to spur these business owners to innovate and create more opportunities in Benin.

I need not tell you that the So-Called Ancient City is fast becoming a Global Village were the ordinary market woman is being equipped with relevant skills to scale her business and go Global!
