Andres Madariaga, Data Science Consultant at STAT-UP

Originally from Colombia, Andres completed his bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering, during which he participated in a research and exchange semester at Texas Tech University. Upon graduation, he worked in the data science department of an American telecommunications provider for nearly two years, which solidified his interest in specializing in this field. This led him to pursue a master’s degree in data science at TU Dortmund. After his studies, he was looking for a place to be at the forefront of data science and came across STAT-UP. It was an immediate match. In his free time, Andres normally plays football, videogames, goes hiking in the Alps or just takes a stroll with friends across the beautiful city of Munich.

What is your daily job at STAT-UP?

My days at STAT-UP are dynamic and varied. On some occasions, I find myself immersed in datasets identifying patterns, trends, and relationships. Other times, I am focused on gathering new data through web scraping or engineering new features to enhance our analytical capabilities. In addition to these technical tasks, I maintain close contact with our clients to gain a deep understanding of their business objectives, challenges, and data-related needs. I also invest some time in creating dashboards and reports. These visual and written resources enable our clients to easily interpret and apply our findings, ultimately driving data-driven decision-making.

Could you tell us about some of the projects that you are working on in STAT-UP?

The project I am currently working on aims to enhance the operational efficiency of a public institution by harnessing the power of data and artificial intelligence. My primary role involves collecting, preparing, and exploring diverse data sources to uncover valuable insights. I am also responsible for creating interactive visualizations and reports. For all of this I am mostly using Python and Shiny.

What makes this project particularly interesting is the potential it holds to transform the operational and decision-making processes within public institutions.

What I like the most about STAT-UP, is the possibility to be involved in such a wide variety of Data Science projects.
