André Swanepoel is a distinguished Namibian lawyer whose career spans over four decades, marked by his dedication to property law and his profound impact on the legal landscape of Namibia. André Swanepoel was born and raised in Namibia. Growing up in a diverse environment, he developed a deep appreciation for different cultures and backgrounds, fostering a sense of inclusivity and mutual respect that has been a cornerstone of his personal and professional life.
?As an avid sportsman, André indulged and excelled at multiple sports even going as far as representing his country Namibia in tennis, squash, and rugby. Although he had experienced great success in his home country, he quite fondly remembers being wiped out at an African Country District squash tournament by the then reigning champion Pat Symcox, which made him realise that being the best somewhere doesn’t necessarily make you the best everywhere. He took it as a lesson to always strive to do and learn more fuelling his spirit of perseverance and training harder.
A Distinguished Legal Career
Throughout his career, André has specialised predominantly in property law, with a particular focus on sectional title developments. He has been instrumental in the registration of the first sectional title scheme in Namibia, following the enactment of the Sectional Titles Act, significantly impacting the property development landscape in the country. His practical and results-oriented approach has consistently contributed to his clients' success.
André’s leadership was pivotal during the merger of two of Namibia’s most prominent law firms: Dr Weder, Kruger & Hartmann (established in 1949) and Kauta, Basson & Kamuhanga Inc (established in 2000). This merger resulted in the formation of the largest law firm in Namibia, Dr Weder Kauta & Hoveka Inc., where he has served as Managing Director since September 2006.
Contributions and Community Involvement
Beyond his professional achievements, André is deeply committed to community service and pro bono work. He has been involved in transferring plots in Katutura for free to individuals who were relocated, in collaboration with the Minister of Local Authority. He is also actively involved with Imago Dei, contributing to various community and social causes. His dedication to giving back to the community aligns with his belief in trustworthiness, credibility, and the importance of fostering opportunities for growth.

André’s motivation to pursue a career in law was inspired by his father, a police officer and station commander who acted as a state prosecutor. This early exposure to the legal field, coupled with his father’s influence, instilled in him a passion for justice and the law.

André has served on several significant boards and panels, including the Sectional Titles Regulation Board, the Board of Legal Education, and the Law Society’s Conveyancer’s Examination Panel. He played a crucial role in the implementation of the current Sectional Titles Act and was instrumental in transferring all assets of Walvis Bay from South Africa to Namibia.
