Anderson Art Award - Galleries In The Gardens
I just wanted to give a shout out to the incredible Art Gallery ‘Galleries in the Gardens’ located in Tea Gardens, NSW, just north of Newcastle, for their inaugural ‘Anderson Art Awards’ held last Friday April 14th. If you don’t know the gallery I’d highly recommend having a visit as (a) it’s located in one of the most beautiful spots in Australia, (b) the venue is beyond fantastic, and (c) the staff and sponsors are so generous and giving to their local community.
This was my first art competition, it was an incredible night, and was run by their exceptionally organized and highly personable coordinator Mr. Ian Morphett, and judged by Ms. Kim Blunt, the Senior Curator at Maitland Regional Art Gallery, both of whom I also want to individually thank. I rekindled my passion for art during Covid and felt incredibly lucky and extremely grateful they allowed me to enter two of my large abstract paintings ‘First Frost’ and ‘Day Break’ into the competition - which had 147 entries over two categories: both 2D (paintings) and 3D (sculptures).
There was a large amount of high-level art on display – which will be on display until April 30th, 2023 – and was won (2D) by Julia Ross for her watercolour: “Stuck! The Myall River”, and (3D) by Janette Bickley for her ceramic stoneware vase: “The Wedding” - and you can find more information on 'Galleries in the Gardens' and the 'Anderson Art Award' here: https://www.newsofthearea.com.au/inaugural-anderson-art-awards-presented-by-kim-blunt-at-galleries-in-the-gardens ?here: https://galleriesinthegardens.com.au/ ?and here:?https://www.facebook.com/GalleriesInTheGardensGIG/
