Ancient Varanasi Charms Modern Tourists - One for the ages!

2023 went by in a blur. It was the year we completed 12 years of onsite in the USA and came back home to INDIA. As the year ended, we found ourselves amidst the labyrinth like narrow lanes of Varanasi and the hypnotic beats of chants and temple bells.

Surrounded by the hazy swirling of smoke from the Ganga Aartis, our small boat navigated the holy waters with utmost veneration. The city unfolded before us – ancient Ghats draped in saffron hues, temples reaching towards the sky, and the karmic cycle of life and death pulsating along the water's edge.

• Ancient allure:?One of the oldest living cities,?revered as a holy site for spiritual enlightenment. It was forever on my bucket list... similar to Machu Picchu which I could tick off in 2019!
• Rituals & Faith:?Witnessing Ganga Aarti and other traditions offered us a glimpse into our vibrant Hindu culture. There is more to see in this world beyond the 'touristy' places and structures.
• Improved access and Revitalized City:?Kashi Vishwanath Corridor has really eases pilgrimage and boosts tourism as it connects the iconic Kashi Vishwanath temple and the ghats along the river Ganga. We have also encountered good flight connectivity (BLR-VAR) and train connectivity - Vande Bharat (VAR-DEL).
• Beyond religion:?We were able to explore a lively cultural hub with visits to artisans creating Banarasi silk,?scrumptious food, enthralling music,?and historical sites like Sarnath.
• Peaceful Ganges:?Boat rides offer unique perspectives and serene experiences. It gave us time to reflect and be amazed at the richness of our culture.
• Surging numbers:?Increased tourist footfall surpasses even Goa in 2023,?which has really given a boost to local economy. The hospitality we encountered was commendable- hotels, restaurants, shopping, transportation etc.

Based on my experience, I can strongly vouch that Varanasi's unique blend of spiritual significance, cultural richness, historical treasures, and improved infrastructure can propel it to the forefront of India's top tourist destinations.
