Diogo’s journey began at the age of 17 when he joined the Portuguese Navy right after finishing high school. During his tenure in the Portugues Navy, Diogo was fortunate to serve abroad the N.R.P. Alvares Cabral, one of the few frigates in the Portuguese fleet. As one of the youngest in his rank, he quickly adapted to the unique onboard atmosphere, acquiring crucial skills for various emergencies, from fire simulations to man-overboard drills. His attention to detail and comprehensive understanding of the ship’s structure were vital in preparing for any eventuality.

Diogo has kindly shared some advice to those seeking to transition into a professional career outside the military:

Life outside the military has its challenges. After working for years in an institution with many rules and etiquette, one can’t stop feeling lost and overwhelmed by the outside world. The most important advice I can give someone in that situation is to, like in a ship, not go against the current. Your path will show itself sooner than you think, and you’ll find your place and soon realize that if you maintain the same values and approach to life you previously had in military life, you’ll continue to be successful, happy and accomplished. The military life is a journey of enlightenment. After this, you’ll be surprised how ready you are to take on any challenge and opportunity!
