Freight Forwarding's first time at METSTRADE

This week, our UK Freight Forwarding division attended Metstrade for the first time, with Nicky Bull and Leeann Borrageiro representing the department, along with Sergee Van Der Pligt based in the Netherlands.

In the video above, Nicky chats with Ben Taylor about the importance yet often overlooked role of freight forwarding. she also highlights that while we are synonymous with yacht transport, we actually began as a freight forwarding company over 50 years ago and have spent decades honing our expertise in this field.

Joining the Freight Forwarding Team were Steve Franklyn and Craig Stanbury, our racing logistics specialists. As one of the world’s largest leisure marine trade exhibitions, METS is must-have on the company’s events calendar and Steve has attended on behalf of Peters & May for over a decade.

Attracting a global audience, METS offers an excellent networking platform allowing us to meet with existing clients and introduce our services to new prospects. The Red Jet 4 makes its arrival into South Korea

Redjet 4

We are happy to report that this month we ensured the Red Jet 4’s safe arrival and unloading in South Korea’s Mokpo port, off the AAL KOBE, which departed from Southampton.

The high-speed catamaran, which has the capacity to accommodate up to 271 passengers, has notoriously served the Southampton-Cowes route since 2003. It is now set to join a new fleet of high-speed catamarans operating between popular tourist destinations in South Korea, including Mokpo and Jeju Island.

Shipping History: The journey of Comus (1882)

The historical yacht, Comus, built in 1882

Playing our part in preserving maritime history, this month we shipped the historic yacht Comus, a classic vessel built in 1882.

Starting its journey from Ipswich to her new home in South Africa, Comus was first carefully trucked to Antwerp before she could then be loaded onto a shipping vessel bound for Cape Town.

Comus is a rare survivor of the 19th-century yacht design and is listed on the National Historic Ships register!

Edwardian Luxury: The voyage of Cangarda (1901)

The 1901 steam yacht, Cangarda

Cangarda, the 1901 126ft steam yacht, presented our team with another opportunity to ship sheer history, this time from Belfast, US to Turkey.

Cangarda is one of the last surviving steam yachts of her kind, representing a golden era of craftsmanship. Operating just as she did centuries ago, she is still powered by her original steam engines which were meticulously restored in 2009.

Thanks to the expertise of our loadmaster team – Oleh, Callum, and Lee, and the support of Liebherr Cranes, the lift-on loading of this historic yacht was seamless.

Two 22-metre tugboat shipment from Vietnam to St. Malo

Two 22-metre tugboat shipment

Peters & May’s Commercial Marine Transport division recently collaborated with Jumbo Maritime to successfully ship two brand new 22-metre, 320-tonne tugboats from Vietnam to the French port of St Malo. This 1.5-month voyage demonstrated our team’s commitment to precision and safety in marine logistics.

A key feature of this shipment was the unique architectural design of the tugboats, which integrated lifting lugs directly into their structure. This allowed for a single-point lift approach, enabling Jumbo's advanced crane systems to hoist each vessel safely and efficiently, ensuring a smooth handling process and minimising potential risks.

Now safely arrived in St Malo, the tugboats are ready to be deployed in the English Channel, where they’ll operate within the Saint-Malo lock and the outer harbour. This project highlights our expertise in handling complex marine cargo, in partnership with industry leaders like Jumbo.
