Ancestral Beverages and Tobacco Offering

Alcohol is a volatile substance. In small doses, it promotes truth, understanding, and love. In large doses, it sickens and kills like any other poison.??

But if you feel comfortable around it, it can help you connect with potent Mysteries that have existed since ancient times and which continue in new forms today.

I offer traditional beer homemade or bought from the shops or also whiskey in recognition of my ancestors.

Normally I would offer whiskey when they have guided me through something that I feel was very important and needed their immediate intervention. For normal ancestral celebrations offering I prefer to use traditional beer.

But other people’s ancestral lines may respond more strongly to the alcoholic beverages that they historically had access to. This could mean traditional beer depending on where your ancestors hail from. You may wish to do some research into the history of brewing in the regions you identify your ancestry with.?

Alternatively, you could choose a beverage that is brewed locally, or even one that you brew yourself. Hard liquors are a much more recent innovation than wine ,traditional beer so in my experience they make excellent offerings but don’t have the same weight as offering an ancient beverage.?

Hard liquor and tobacco These can be divisive offerings: some ancestors respond well to them, others don’t.?It’s up to you to discern what is right for your ancestral line, and for your own emotional state and with their guidance of what they prefer as offering

(The three are linked, after all) If you wish to share liquor with your ancestors, you might offer particular ancestors whatever drink they preferred in life, whether that be whiskey, rum, or another spirit. Alternatively, you might pick a liquor that has some symbolic resonance for you, like a smoky whiskey that reminds you of a fiery ancestor or a specialty liquor brewed in one of the regions you identify your ancestry with.


Many old herbal liqueurs such as absinthe, Chartreuse, and amaro were originally brewed as medicines and contain powerful magical herbs, so these can make good offerings for continued health.?


Tobacco can be offered loose or on a traditional?bone plate, or rolled into a cigarette or cigar. If cigarettes or cigars are offered, you can either light these and share a few puffs or leave them unlit.?

Disclaimer?Not everyone offers alcohol and tobacco offerings to their ancestors , and some ancestors may not want alcohol or tobacco offerings.

Remember ancestral beverages offering are different according to your ancestors ,your country and your belief it will be helpful to ask them what they want as a offering or ask the assistance of your traditional mentor if you have one.
