The key to success is to ignore most of the data. Instead aggregate the right data and then relentlessly focus on the key metrics that can make you more successful.
At Motiv, we discovered the joy of working with Pacing Dashboards. As a result, I’ve become addicted to them.
A Pacing Dashboard is pretty simple – it answers the question “If we are 4 weeks through the quarter, (i.e. 30% done) are we 30% of the way to our goal?” If so, we are on pace and life is good.
This simple technique works really well for any metric that should make steady linear progress as the quarter unfolds. For example, in 30 seconds I can answer the following questions and get details if I want them:
- Have we created enough leads to keep our pipelines packed?
- Are we converting and creating opportunities consistently?
- Did we perform enough activity with our partners to ensure we are represented?
- Are we resolving service requests in a consistent and even manner?
Where It Makes Sense To Pace
Engagement Cloud analytics are pretty flexible. We have found a total of 12 metrics that could be used as linear pacing metrics. While this trick is not perfect for non-linear business metrics like bookings (it seems like our business books in bigger chunks and they tend to occur around our client’s budget cycles) it is still helpful to know if we are burning hot or cold.
