Romanian industrial output grew in December 2020 at the fastest pace in nearly two years, registering a +2.7% y-t-y growth. This growth is mainly due to the rebound of the Romanian manufacturing output, which registered +2.8%.

Best performing Romanian industrial sectors in 2020 have been pharmaceuticals (+5%) and chemical products (+7.2%).

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect the Romanian industrial output to expand 9.0% in 2021 followed by 4.5% in 2022.

The Czeck industrial production increased in real terms by 0.5% in December 2020 vs. December 2019. Seasonally adjusted industrial production increased by 0.2%, month-on-month (m-o-m). The value of new orders in the Czech industrial sector increased by 11.2%, y-o-y.

Seasonally adjusted industrial production in the Czech Republic in the Q4 2020 increased by 3.8% compared to the Q3 2020.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect the Czech industrial output to expand 7.4% in 2021. In 2022, they see industrial production growing 4.2%.

As for the performance of the Polish industrial sector, after eliminating the seasonal factors, in January 2021 the sold production of industry reached the level higher by 5.7% than in the corresponding month of 2020 and by 1.7% higher as compared to December 2020.

In December 2020, the sold production of industry in Poland was by 11.2% higher than in December 2019, which was the best result since October 2017.

FocusEconomics panelists expect the Polish industrial output to expand 8% in 2021, followed by a 5.4% growth in 2022.

The Hungarian industrial production volume grew by 5.8% year-on-year in December 2020. The volume of industrial export was above the previous year’s level by 9.4%. Transport equipment export, representing a 34% weight within export sales in manufacturing, went up by 12.6%.

Within industry, production increased by 6.7% in the decisive weight (95%) representing manufacturing.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists project that Hungary's industrial output to increase 7.4% in 2021. For 2022, the panel projects industrial output to expand 4.8%.

In regards to the Bulgarian industrial sector, according to the preliminary data, in December 2020 the Industrial Production Index , seasonally adjusted, increased by 0.1 % as compared to November 2020.

In December 2020 as compared to November 2020, the seasonally adjusted Bulgarian Industrial Production Index rose in the mining and quarrying industry by 12.3%. Significant increase in the manufacturing was registered in the manufacture tobacco products, by 7.4%, in the manufacture of electrical equipment, by 5.7%, in the manufacture of machinery and equipment n.e.c. by 5.5%, and in the manufacture of textiles by 5.3%.

As for the annual changes, major increases were seen in the manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers and semitrailers by 34.9%, in the manufacture of electrical equipment by 18.3% in the manufacture of basic

pharmaceutical products and pharmaceutical preparations by 15.6%, and in the manufacture of fabricated metal products, except machinery and equipment by 15.5%.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists see industrial production in Bulgaria growing 3.9% in 2021, followed by 3.3% in 2022.

The industrial production in the Republic of Serbia in December 2020 increased by 4.1% relative to December 2019, while relative to 2019 average, it increased by 9.8%. The Serbian industrial production in 2020 increased by 0.4% relative to 2019.

Serbian manufacturing registered a growth of 5.5% in December 2020 compared with December 2019.

The largest influence on Serbian industrial production growth in December 2020 compared to December 2019 had the divisions of manufacture of fabricated metal products, except machinery and equipment, of manufacture of rubber and plastic products, of manufacture of non-metallic mineral products, of manufacture of electrical equipment and manufacture of food products.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect industrial production in Serbia to increase 3.9% in 2021, while in 2022, the panel sees industrial production rising 3.5%.
