Industry News
It's no secret that construction and infrastructure updates continue all around the country. From the Atlantic to the Pacific and points in between, buildings are being built, roads are being improved, and railways are getting expanded.
As the ever-rising needs of the population shoot up, so too will the need to improve, expand, and build anew. It's a fantastic time to be looking for a job in the construction industry.
We'll start there with the industry news section.
Nationwide
One of the biggest obstacles currently facing a construction industry that has seen record levels of investment is the lack of available workforce. Per the Gwinnett Daily Post, there were 370,000 open construction roles in August - a rise of 138,000 positions from the month of July.
With the sheer amount of projects going on nationwide, finding workers to complete them is inevitably a challenge. Of course, if you're having difficulties finding key pieces for your team, we're here to help.
Texas
In the Lone Star State, Texas A&M is set to launch several construction projects at multiple campuses around the state. Projects include wind tunnels, classrooms, and other improvements at Texas A&M's College Station and San Antonio campuses.
Over in Austin, the Texas Department of Transportation has allocated $32 million to replace the Barton Springs Bridge. The project to replace the 99-year-old bridge is expected to break ground in late 2026 or early 2027.
Georgia
The city of Columbus, Georgia, is set to get a large project underway soon, with $45 million being allocated to a multi-road intersection called the "Spiderweb Project." The project aims to provide relief for traffic and decrease commute times that can be dramatically impacted by a train near Buena Vista Road.
Florida
Down in Fort Meyers, the Sunshine State is set to receive a new Amazon warehouse and distribution facility. The building is slated to measure about 750,000 square feet. The current estimated opening date is 2027.
North Carolina
As the state of North Carolina continues to recover from the devastation caused by Hurricane Helene, the United States Department of Transportation is sending $43 million in relief funds. The funds include $25 million for emergency repairs to the famous Blue Ridge Parkway.
Meanwhile, the North Carolina Department of Transportation has awarded $12.9 million for shortline railroads in the state in order to improve and expand capacity. The railways play a vital role in North Carolina's economy and the construction should help to ease transportation costs.
South Carolina
In Charleston County, South Carolina, the long-awaited Mark Clark Extension project has hit a snag as the county searches for ways to secure more funding. The project was originally expected to cost around $420 million back in 2006 when the agreement between the county and the South Carolina Department of Transportation was initially signed. However, current estimates show the project will cost around $2.3 billion.
Meanwhile, in Upstate SC, Greenville County is getting a new facility for a sewer subdistrict. The $32 million project is expected to be completed by the spring of 2026.
