Amplify your leadership through Brain based coaching.

Let's have a real talk managers. Venturing into new development territories like brain-based coaching often feels like suggesting a switch from tried-and-true coffee to, dare we say, herbal tea. The response? A symphony of scepticism, eye rolls, and the not-so-occasional "not for me" expression. But wait, before relegating brain-based coaching to the trash can let's tackle the elephant in the room: why the mere mention of coaching has managers searching their book of excuses.

The Root of Reluctance

  1. The DIY Coaching Belief: I believe at the heart of the hesitation, there's a prevailing belief among many managers that they are, in fact, the coach their team needs. "Who needs an external coach when you have me?" is often the unspoken mantra. This stance isn't just about ego; it's rooted in a genuine desire to lead and develop their team personally. The thought of bringing in an outsider can feel like admitting a weakness or a gap in their leadership armour. I know this to be true as it was my thinking for many years.
  2. Cost Concerns: Then there's the matter of the budget—seeing dollar signs flying out the window with every mention of external coaching. It's challenging to justify the expenditure without a clear picture of the return on investment, especially when there are daily battles to be won on the financial front, especially in areas of support such as HR and finance, this becomes even harder to justify. I have seen what untapped potential can actually lose a business.
  3. Time Constraints: Time is a commodity more precious than the last drop of coffee on a Monday morning. Introducing coaching sessions into the mix? That might seem like asking for a miracle in an already packed schedule. Building better, more productive habits takes time and support but has a definite ROI.
  4. Scepticism Over Efficacy: And, of course, there's the eyebrow raise at the mention of "brain-based" anything. To the uninitiated, it sounds more like a plot twist in a science fiction novel than a legitimate business strategy, breeding scepticism over its real-world applicability, but I remember my scepticism of the 'computer when I was in high school in the 80's, it might actually work!
  5. Change Resistance: Lastly, the comfort zone—everyone's favourite hideout. Suggesting a new coaching approach feels like telling a group of die-hard classic rock fans at a concert that the next act is a modern electronic DJ. There's an instant reflex to cling to the devil they know, rather than venture into a set filled with unfamiliar beats and rhythms. It's not just a fear of not liking the new sound—it's about having to admit that maybe, just maybe, there's room on their playlist for something a bit different.

The Turnaround

Acknowledging these reluctances, it's time to showcase why embracing brain-based coaching is less about jumping ship and more about upgrading to a luxury yacht.

Picture a workplace where emotional intelligence is as freely available as the office Wi-Fi—strong, reliable, and indispensable. Where cognitive flexibility is celebrated with more enthusiasm than the office's "casual Friday." Where resilience is part of the team's DNA, and communication mishaps are as rare as finding a parking spot right in front of the office.

Addressing the DIY coaching belief head-on, it's not about replacing the manager's role but enhancing it. Think of a brain-based coach not as the new team captain but as the world-class navigator, helping to chart a course through unexplored territories of team potential and performance. It's an opportunity to amplify your leadership, not overshadow it.

So, dear managers, before consigning brain-based coaching to the "maybe next quarter" pile, consider it as the secret ingredient in your leadership toolkit. It's not an admission of inadequacy but a bold step towards unlocking unprecedented team success. Who's ready to be the pioneering captain of this exciting voyage?
