(1)??????A.M.P. Champ of the Week

I know, I know.

You might be looking at Lisa's title thinking, "Why is she an A.M.P. Champ of the Week, she's not even in the multifamily industry?!?!"

You're right, she's not.

But I believe that the multifamily industry could learn a lot from her!

And, when you write your own newsletter, you can make / break your own rules.

Today is Lisa’s birthday and she took the day off.

In fact, she gives everyone that works at Spirit Sox their birthday as a paid holiday.

Brilliant.

Check out her post and, if you feel inspired to order some cool socks, check out her website!

Thanks for being an inspiration, Lisa!

(2)??????As Seen at Church?

Before you hit delete, this part of my newsletter is not about religion but rather something that inspired me to change the way I think from the church service I attended this past Sunday.

As I’ve mentioned in the past, I grew up in a strict Catholic household, and was required to go to service 6 days a week (as part of my private school upbringing (K – 5).

As I grew older, I realized that Catholicism wasn’t for me.

About 6 years ago, I was fortunate enough to discover The Community Church in Lake Bluff, IL.

They take the meaning of “come as you are” to a whole new level!

Every summer, they move the location of their services outside to the scenic shores of Lake Michigan.

Truth be told, I’m not much of a summer person – fall is more my style.

Rev. Sean Miller, shared the inspiration behind his sermon that day which came from a song called, “Dear Younger Me.”

The song asks one simple question: “If you could, what wisdom would you offer to the younger version of you?”

My mouth hit the floor.

What a GREAT question!

He asks us to think about that for a minute.

My internal answer was “STOP MAKING ASSUMPTIONS!!!!!!”

Sean’s answer?

Aside from don’t bleach your hair in college was:

Look for the commas.

Intrigued (and somewhat confused), I sat up a little taller in my chair.

I don’t want to spoil his message, but I will share a few nuggets.

Matter-of-factly, he says, “There will be times when life puts a period at the end of the sentence but then grace shows up with a comma.?How many times in life have we come up to a dead end?

Where pain put a period at the end of a sentence.

Where a bad decision put a period at the end of a sentence.?

Where trauma put an end to the sentence.

In closing, his encouraging words are simple:

Look for the commas, there always there.

To watch/hear Sean’s message, go to 22:34 – 32:47 in the video link below.

P.S.?A FANTASTIC band, the “Oh Yeahs” played some incredible music.?If you don’t get chills on the last song, you may need to be resuscitated (begins at 39:00)!?

(3)??Let’s Get Personal

Since we are basically done with the first 6 months of this year, I thought I would share with you a progress report on my post from the beginning of this year.

I don't make resolutions or set goals.

Instead, I create intentions.

I prefer to prompt purpose for a healthy, mental environment.

What the hell does that mean, you might be asking?

Let me explain.

In my opinion, intentions are aligned with more purpose and easier to follow.

If I set a goal and don't achieve it in a timely manner, I flog myself - which is EXACTLY why I created Project 66 (see my LinkedIn posts).

I have created a word for each month of 2022 that will be my mantra / intention to follow.

So, what grade would I give myself?

“D”

Why so low?

Let’s break it down.

JANUARY – I intended on being kind.?If I’m being honest, I am really kind to strangers but maybe not so kind to people who have hurt me in the past.?

I tend to hold a grudge – something else I’m working on.

FEBRUARY – I intended to become.?

Become what you might be asking?

Something more than myself.

I think I did well there because I wanted to become more vulnerable, and I did so by starting this newsletter in February, but I need some serious work on becoming more vulnerable in my marriage.

MARCH – I intended to become a mentor.

Did I?

Perhaps unknowingly but I didn’t reach out to anyone asking if they wanted me to mentor them, per say.

APRIL – I intended on being capable.

Capable of what?

More than I was.

I’m going to give myself some kudos here because overall, especially at work, I realized I was capable of more than I was giving myself credit for.

MAY – I intended on being more Optimistic.

Honestly, I’m on the fence on this one.

I was definitely more positive-minded in a lot of ways (as compared to last year at that time) but I know I have a long way to go!

JUNE – I intended to become more radiant.

I have to say, I do have a great tan going on – which is saying something since I’m Irish and we tend to burn, not tan.

Obviously, that’s not what I meant by radiant.

I would say that I radiate the most when I have worked out for the day.

I become more magnetic to others, more pleasant to be around.

But, when I’ve missed that sweat session, I radiate more negativity.

I understand that there are always going to be days I can’t work out but even if I walk our dog, Tigger just a few times a day, that counts.

Take a look at July – December.

What I vow to do for the next 6 months is to be more intentional with my intentions and write them down, share them with someone who can help me stay accountable.

I’m welcoming “applicants” for that position and don’t have firm criteria other than asking you to reach out and kick my ass when you see me heading down the negative train.

What are your intentions??Will you share them with me and with others?

I’m happy to hep kick your ass when needed.

(4)??Someone Who has Made an AMPression on Me?

One of my life’s missions is to connect others.

Why??Because we can all learn from one another.

And that's exactly how A.M.P. (Apartment Management Professionals) was born!

I love dissecting words and looking for greater meaning like the word Apartment.?

Since the month of March was supposed to be all about mentoring for me, I selected this go-to question from my AMPressions interviews:

Who is your mentor and why?

This week I chose to spotlight?JZ Jake Zachariah, B2B Product Marketing Manager with Grace Hill.

His response to this question:

“I’m fortunate enough to have a few people in my life I’d consider a mentor, so I’ll share a few who have made an indelible mark on my career and in my heart:

Steve Wunch has been a friend and trusted adviser from the very beginning. We had a chance meeting in a training at my first multifamily job and he’s helped me find my path through multifamily ever since. FRIEND TO THE END! ??

Nancy Lovell was my Regional Manager almost ten years ago when we met and nudged (pushed ??) me to step into the spotlight and own my talents and expertise. She taught me the real value of volunteering in my local industry associations (IREM + NAA Affiliate) and I’m forever grateful for her encouragement.

Jessica Romero has been a friend and someone I consider a mentor for years. We met while I was onsite leasing, and she was in sales for a supplier partner, and we just hit it off! Months and months can pass, and we’ll pick up the phone without hesitation to chat about the next big turn in our career. Her advice and perspective have been one I’ll cherish forever.”

Read the rest of his interview below.

(5)??As Seen on Facebook

FOMO is a real thing.

I really felt it this past week because I was unable to attend the NAA Apartmentalize conference in San Diego.?

But something unexpected happened to a member of our multifamily family.

Lane Sheer, Co-Director of Property Operations and Toni Yrlas, Property Training Specialist at The Preiss Company were the innocent victims of gun violence while attending the conference.?

I don’t know who they are but that doesn’t matter.

They need our support.

If you’d like to donate, use the link below.

Every little bit helps towards their recovery.??

++++++++

Until next week my friends…
