What makes Reza a ChAMPion in your eyes?

Reza is the teammate everyone wishes they had. She listens intently, takes everyone’s ideas to heart and approaches every aspect of her job with enthusiasm and a “can do” attitude. She’s the person who is the first to celebrate a win and the one who will sit with you through the “thick” of it, when things are hard and trying.

Kristi’s Takeaway:

Reza is a breath of fresh air and exudes “servant leadership”. It’s never about “her” and always about how she can help others. This authentic and intentional approach to relationship building earns her the trust and respect of many - and acts as a catalyst for success for both her and the on-site teams she serves.

(2) As Seen on LinkedIn?

High-energy.

Charismatic.

Magnetic.

Authentic.

These are just a few words that I would use to describe Clint Pulver, a professional keynote speaker, author, musician, pilot, and workforce expert.

Known as the leading authority on employee retention, Clint has transformed how corporations like Keller Williams, AT&T, and Hewlett Packard create lasting loyalty through his work and research as the Undercover Millennial.

He has been featured by BusinessQ Magazine as a "Top 40 Under 40," and, as a professional drummer, he has appeared in feature films and America's Got Talent.

In 2020, Clint won an Emmy Award for his short film Be a Mr. Jensen, which tells the story of how a single moment in time-and one particular mentor - can change the course of a life.

I first learned about Clint from a podcast which inspired me to buy and read his book: "I Love it Here: How Great Leaders Create Organizations Their People Never Want to Leave." In fact, he was gracious enough to speak to the participants of my virtual book club last June.

He posted a Communication Tip on LinkedIn that he learned from his friend and fellow speaker, Vinh Giang which I LOVE!

It's simple:

“If you want to move people, then move your FACE."

(3) Someone Who has Made an AMPression on Me?

One of my life’s missions is to connect others.

Why??Because we can all learn from one another.

And that's exactly how A.M.P. (Apartment Management Professionals) was born!

I love dissecting words and looking for greater meaning like the word Apartment.?

Which brings me to another one of my go-to questions from my AMPressions interviews:

What sets you “Apart” and why are you “Meant” for the multifamily industry?

This week I chose to spotlight?Keir Schutte, President of Strategic Management Solutions, LLC.

Her response to this question:

I am different; I feel certain that everyone that knows me would agree! I beat to my own drum; thank goodness it has always worked for me. I have always fought for the underdog (whether that is the worst property, my employees, or residents in need), and (ironically) these days, I literally do with my animal rescue! ;)?I run an animal rescue/sanctuary nonprofit and use part of our management office for the Headquarters. ??

I am meant for this industry because my forte has always been value-add, distressed and mismanaged apartment communities. And there have been, and still are, a LOT!?I really dig cleaning things up and turning around tough properties. I love customer service; we shouldn’t be in this business if we don’t care about people.

My takeaway:

I am not sure you can find a person with a bigger heart than, Keir Schutte.?Hanging with her is like wearing your favorite pair of jeans. You know, the ones you’ve had for 20 years and will NEVER get rid of because they’ve seen you through it all.?That’s her.?She’s AMAZING and will literally give you the shirt off her back and you won’t catch her saying a bad word about anyone.?I guarantee that when you connect with her, your day will get more beautiful – much like her favorite song!

(4) As Heard on a Podcast?

My typical morning routine involves a 3.4 mile walk (round trip) to my local Starbucks to get my usual: a Tall, Sugar Free Vanilla Cold Brew with Cream and Cinnamon Powder. Unless it's cold outside then it's a Tall, Skinny Vanilla Oat Milk Latte.

Anyway, I use that time to listen to a library of my favorite podcasts which now includes the GCAA (Greater Charlotte Apartment Association) Morning Perks Podcast hosted by Leah Vinansky.

Today's episode featured Shane Raby, Regional Manager with TriBridge Residential (amongst a few other guests).

I chose to spotlight Shane's interview because of his passion for connection - hmmm....sounds familiar!

Shane is so passionate about supporting his local association that Leah joked that he had so many ribbons on his name badge at a recent event that they basically touched the floor!

They include:

  • Board Member (serving his 2nd term)
  • EAC (Education Advisory Council) Chair
  • Volunteer Instructor
  • Next Gen Committee Volunteer
  • Bus Tour Committee

And if that wasn't enough, he was recognized as Manager of the Year a few years back.

A few minutes into the interview, I found myself nodding when he shared that "Having a credential shows you are in it for the long haul and interested in the WHY’s in multifamily."

I couldn't agree more.

In fact, I happen to have my CAS (Certified Apartment Supplier) designation!

Towards the end of the interview, Shane suggested that the listeners:

"Get involved, join a committee and make great connections."

I think I will.

(5) Lasso Learnings (from Ted Lasso the show, not the rope)?

Lasso Lesson #12

Believe.

In the Season 1 finale, Ted Lasso, Coach Beard and Nate, the newly promoted assistant coach, are gathered in Ted’s living room strategizing on how to beat Manchester City.

There’s a lot of pressure because this is a climactic match that will determine the fates of Ted and his club.

Ted asks the guys, "Tell me how we beat Manchester City?”

To which Nate abruptly replies, “We cannot beat Manchester City.”

Ted yells, “Dang it, Nate!?That’s not the answer I want to hear from my assistant coach on his first day!”

Nate, continuing down the Debbie Downer trail says, “It is hopeless.”

Coach Beard, knowing Ted as well as he does, cringes at Nate's commentary.

Unwilling to accept that answer, Ted runs out of the room for a minute and comes rushing back in with a yellow sign that reads:

Believe (just like the one above his office door).

He says that he has those signs posted all over his apartment and the one he was holding happened to be from his bathroom mirror.

Shaking the sign profusely in Nate’s face, he asks Nate if the sign rings a bell.

“This one is from the bathroom mirror.?It’s the first thing I see in the morning and it’s the last thing I see at night when I rationalize being too tired to floss.”

Coach Beard matter-of-factly adds, “Belief can’t score goals, Coach.”

Not surprisingly, Ted didn’t respond too kindly to that statement.

Picking up on Ted’s subtlety, he declares that they are being a pair of “negative Nellie’s to which Ted simply agrees by saying “jackpot!”

My Takeaway

Nothings impossible.

Everything is worth trying.

Even if you don’t win, or dare I say tie (which Ted does not believe in), at least you can say you tried!

And, if it's your first day at a new job or in a new role, be willing to believe. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain!
