Ampleon's Newest LDMOS Power Transistor for UHF Applications

The BLF898(S) is a new 50V, 900W LDMOS power transistor for use in the UHF (Digital) Television Broadcasting and CW/pulsed Industrial, Scientific and Medical (ISM) markets. Manufacturers of UHF transmitters are continually seeking to increase overall system efficiency (ideally >50%) since they can significantly decrease the cost of the power supplies, heat-sinks and cooling which, in turn, result in an overall decrease in electricity/operating costs.

With its 180W (ave.) DVB-T power capability in Class-AB, the BLF898(S) offers the highest power and efficiency available in a single transistor for UHF broadcast equipment manufacturers. Indeed, this power capability along with the ruggedness of the device makes it extremely well suited for the new ATSC 3.0 broadcast standard which requires a higher peak-to-average power capability than previous standards.

The BLF898(S) is designed for use in both symmetric and asymmetric classical Doherty operation in combination with Ampleon's 50V, 650W LDMOS based UHF power transistor - the BLF888B.
