Ammann Green Days Welcomes Crowd. Hydrogen Burner, Regenerating Filter Intrigue Visitors

LANGENTHAL, Switzerland – Sustainable asphalt-mixing plant technologies, including a new hydrogen burner and a self-cleaning VOC ?lter, caught the attention on of the 350 visitors who attended Ammann Green Days in Verona, Italy, from 23-27 October.

Customers were able to access a complete ABA UniBatch plants.

It was apparent to all our guests that Ammann is committed to environmentally friendly asphalt production,” said Marzio Ferrini, Head of product marketing. “Ammann wanted to put the customers at the center of this event and show them the solutions we have developed.”

The occasion included the announcement of three signi?cant emissions abatement e?orts: the H2 hydrogen burner, VOC Reduction Device (VRD) and Blue Smoke Treatment (BST).

The customers responded very positively to these eco-conscious advancements,” Ferrini said. “They were very impressed by what they saw.

Several new asphalt-mixing plant models that utilise these innovations were also introduced.?

Ammann has been committed to green mix production for decades, but the event represented a new sense of urgency on the sustainability front.

We recognize that more needs to be done, and we are addressing emissions issues at every step of production,” Ferrini said. “We are transparent about that.

H2 Hydrogen Burner

The Ammann H2 is the ?rst asphalt-mixing plant burner on the market capable of utilizing 100% hydrogen. It eliminates all CO2 emissions associated with the burner.

There were many questions about the hydrogen burner” Ferrini said. “Customers were keenly interested in this technology and the plants that utilise it.”?

The performance of the Ammann H2 is comparable to a fossil-fuel powered burner. Yet the H2 is easier to regulate, with better heat exchange in the dryer and an overall cleaner process.

The H2 is capable of burning other fuels if desired.

VOC Reduction Device

A new, advanced ?ltration system from Ammann is able to remove a signi?cant level of emissions during asphalt production – and clean itself, too.?

VRD reduces volatile organic compounds (VOCs), odors and other organic carbon emissions. It is the ?rst technology on the market able to self-clean; no ?lter replacements are needed.

With VRD, neither time nor money is spent on ?lter replacements. Plant uptime is optimised as well.

VRD is a modular, stand-alone solution compatible with virtually every type of asphalt-mixing plant – whether provided by Ammann or another manufacturer. It lowers total organic carbon (TOC), which contains VOCs, by as much as 70% under common working conditions.

“All were impressed by this cutting-edge ?ltration system,” Ferrini said. “It improves plants without having to dismantle them.”

Many customers said they will incorporate VRD in their existing plants, Ferrini said. “Doing so will help keep their plants in compliance with tightening emissions standards,” he said.

Blue Smoke Treatment

BST dramatically decreases the emissions that result while loading asphalt mix to trucks. It doesn’t require costly con?nement equipment and is inexpensive to operate, too.?

BST captures fumes that previously would have escaped during loading and redirects them to a multi-stage filtration system. The filters remove the oily particles, and the remaining gases are routed to the combustion chamber. This lowers costs because the captured air is already heated.

BST can be speci?ed during the purchase of a new plant or added as a retro?t. It is compatible with all asphalt plants on the market, regardless of the manufacturer.

UPDATED ASPHALT-MIXING PLANTS

Ammann also announced it has expanded its line of asphalt-mixing plants. The plants will be able to leverage the new green technologies.

Ammann ABA UniBatch Plant

This is an advanced plant with two new capacities: 140 ton/hour and 400 ton/hour.

The Ammann ABA UniBatch o?ers many levels of recycling. It can use 30% RAP through cold recycling – and up to 100% RAP through the RAH100 dryer and its highly advanced technology.

?Energy e?ciency and sound and odour reductions are additional sustainable features of the plant.

?Ammann ACP ConTiMix 2.0 Plant

This premium continuous plant utilises separate drying and mixing processes. That approach o?ers big advantages in terms of dosing quality, production ?exibility and lowered emissions.

?The plant’s patented Zero Waste System prevents tons of mix from being scrapped at the start and end of each shift.

The Ammann ACP ContiMix 2.0 is equipped with the second generation of the RAH50 dryer/drum. The RAH50 is the most advanced dryer in the world, and Ammann owns three patents associated with it.

?

Ammann ABC SolidBatch Plant

This product line includes three new towers with capacities of 100 ton/hour, 260 ton/hour, and 340 ton/hour. These classic continuous plants have a cold recycling system that can utilise up to 40% RAP.

The ABC SolidBatch

The strength of the Ammann ABC SolidBatch series is its low initial cost and the large number of modules to choose from, ensuring customers get the exact plant their business needs.

?

Retro?ts

Ammann showcased its ability to retro?t technologies on plants provided by both Ammann and its competitors. Also highlighted at the show was the as1 Control System, which continues to maintain its stature as an industry leader for asphalt, concrete, and gravel plants.

While the announcements represent great strides, they are not Ammann’s ?rst green undertakings. And certainly not the last.

“These new solutions are big steps, but we strive each and every day to provide our customers with sustainability that improves the world around us – and pro?tability that makes their businesses viable,” Ferrini said.

Dear Ammann Group, I'm impressed with Ammann's commitment to sustainability! I'm sure the future of asphalt-mixing technology is in good hands. Now if only they could make the technology greener and more efficient, then we'd really be in business! ????
