Creators, Happy Monday! It seems like the world continues to get crazier, and unfortunately social media isn’t exempt from that. Good news? Youtube may be the one stable (though monetarily underwhelming) entertainment platform we can rely on at the moment.

YouTube Tightens Their Grip on $$ In Exchange for a Few Strong Words

The highly anticipated Youtube Shorts rollout didn’t payout as much ad revenue as expected, but it is STILL better and more profitable compared to TikTok and IG monetization. Creators, this may be a slow burn, so keep at it. And on another note, Youtube has also eased up their restriction on swearing in videos – so long as it’s rated PG-13 after the first 7 seconds of your videos, it will still be eligible for ad runs.

Podcasters, are you still debating which platform to make your main? Insider Intelligence shared a recent survey by Morning Consult that shows YOUTUBE is the preferred platform for podcast listeners. Whether it’s shown with video content or audio only (soon to be available on Youtube Music) Youtube beat out other audio platforms by about 10% in listener preference. YouTube has made some new announcements surrounding the podcast feature rollout, stay tuned we’ll have a video walking you through all the updates soon.

If you’ve got any gems stored on past Twitter Live recordings, you may want to download them soon or they’ll be thrown into the blue bird’s abyss. But in the spirit of evergreen content marketing, think about some of the ways you can reuse and recycle those old streams for a podcast or YouTube episode. Quality content never goes out of style.

Meta

Ever stop yourself from posting on the feed, just to save yourself some sanity? You’re not the only one. More influencers, creators and marketers are using DM’s and targeted sharing tools like Channels to stay connected. Meta finds that its users are sharing what they find in their messages just as much as on social feeds, and in response are making a bigger push on DM interactions vs. comments or public engagement. Don’t panic if you start to see your page engagement decline, but start thinking about how you can incorporate shareable content in DMs.

Tiktok

The battle continues…Despite TikTok saying that user data is not stored in China, The Biden administration is adamant TikTok be sold off from its parent company, ByteDance or face a ban. TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew will be testifying before a Congressional committee this week. Like we said last week creators, start encouraging your audience to connect on your other platforms as well.
