A huge spike of 3.32 lakh new Covid cases has been recorded in the last 24 hours. PM Modi urged the states to avoid vaccine wastage. Mass political rallies were held recently despite the rising number of Covid cases that made things only worse for the country. This is an extremely worrying situation. India is battling with both Covid as well as incompetent government strategies that failed miserably during the second wave. Maharashtra, Punjab, Kerela, Tamil Nadu, and Chhatisgarh report the highest number of cases.
The hospitals are struggling with a lack of oxygen supply. Ratlam in Madhya Pradesh is reporting a 500% rise in active cases of Covid. It is leading to more loss of lives. India needs to ramp up its Covid19 testing. IAF aircraft have started airlifting procedures yesterday to speed up the oxygen supply across the country. As far as Covid19 testing is concerned, there hasn't been much increase.
The major emphasis is on vaccination. Telangana is reporting vaccine wastage of 16%. Serum Institute shipped 2lakh doses of Covi-shield which will arrive in Chennai this afternoon. In the last 7 days, India has seen the worst phase of its medical conditions. The vaccines will be supplied to various vaccine centers including remote locations but are they enough for a densely populated country? Railway also despatches oxygen-loaded train to augment supply.
Shortage of second dose vaccine was also reported. The scenes at the hospital are heartwrenching. Some hospitals were found stocking vaccines for the people who took the first jab at their centers. The hospitals are begging for oxygen too for saving lives. People are being told to get their second jab from the same vaccine center they took the first. The government approved a single dose of 'Virafin' for mild covid. It was seen that many people visiting UPHC centers for the 2nd dose are returning empty over the past few days.
Some hospitals also turned to social media pleading for oxygen supply to the government. The government must keep in mind the population of India if they are really willing to overcome this scenario as scarcity of essential supply of Covid safety utilities will make conditions further devastating for the nation. The center has decided to spend 26k crores for providing free grains to the poor in May-June.
