Amethyst Highway
Amethyst Highway -- Pieced fabric and Acrylic on Canvas, 42" x 42" by Katharine Weber
Amethyst Highway depicts the effects of erosion on the orderliness of nature. The pieced fabric represents the controlled way in which nature creates -- using highly organized molecules, mathematical exactness, and predictable patterns of growth. However, this rigid grid-work of nature is subjected to outside forces that tug and break away those straight lines. Forces such as entropy, decay, other forms of life, and erosion alter the plan. While nothing goes according to plan, that struggle between order and chaos creates beautiful outcomes. We can see where nature was going with her plan, and we can appreciate the struggle against the uncontrollable forces that warp that plan in gorgeous and intriguing ways.
