Americans know our economy has changed for good. Here’s what we can do about it.
Hello from the brand new Yang2020 Campaign Headquarters in New York! We moved into our new space last week and are off and running. Here I am with some of the team:
These continue to be exciting days on the campaign. Last week CNBC and MSN published an article that was shared more than 200,000 times. Some of you are here because you saw that article. NowThis also posted a video about the campaign that was viewed 1.1 million times, which made them so happy they invited me to their studio to film a sequel. The other day, one supporter told me she was listening to my book, which made me feel like the two days that I spent in a recording studio were worthwhile. Next week we are making our first trip to New Hampshire to meet with Democratic party leaders and activists.
It’s clear that our message is resonating. Americans can see that our economy has changed for good and we need to change with it.
Every day, someone new opens their eyes to the challenges. 73% of Americans now believe that artificial intelligence will eliminate many more jobs than it creates (they’re right).
Last week I received this message from James in Florida:
“You know what my challenge is as an American age 50? I make a solid […] living most of my life and I am barely getting by, cost of life kids college all on my dime, minus major social security paid in my entire life and taxes galore. I have no real money to retire and SS seems iffy at best for me in 15–20 more years. […] My entire industry has been devastated by digital and automation. […] I am blessed to have great long-term clients but everyday digital or automation is taking jobs and clients from the industry. Americans deserve to be protected financially.”
James has worked hard for his entire career, but his industry is changing around him. He’s not alone.
It’s not the case that the 3.5 million truck drivers who will soon be displaced are about to become lazy overnight — it’s that their work is going to be valued less because of advancing technology. One could say the same for the 7 million Americans that work in the thousands of truck stops, motels, diners and gas stations that serve the truckers every day. Times are changing fast, but our government is stuck in the 1960s and has little to offer in the way of solutions.
Let’s change that. Let’s put humanity first.
We need to demonstrate that there is a real hunger for change and new solutions, including the Freedom Dividend of $1,000 per month for every American adult. We can make it a reality. Please do take a moment today to make a contribution to our campaign — and spread the word and tell your friends about our policies. Perhaps take on a personal challenge of raising $100 or $1,000 for the campaign. If you raise at least $100 from your community, let us know — we’d love to feature you on our social media. That’s the only way that change will occur — if we lead our fellow Americans to the fact that big changes are necessary and that we are willing to stand up and fight for them.
Thank you for making this campaign yours. Look forward to making the case alongside you in the days to come.
