The author of The GOD Maps SciFi Series is at it again with the creation of The American Zombie Chronicles. A new comic book series with tales of Zombie-ism rooted specifically in American Pop Culture Horror and sometimes dark political and environmental themes!
We were surprised to learn of her new efforts, especially since she is gaining notoriety in the world of Science Fiction literature. After reading several of the stories from American Zombie, the contents boasted of a veiny direction that many may find horrifyingly refreshing.
SL: What inspired you to detour into Horror?
Kendall: “It was kind of a fluke! A Facebook friend, Marcus Roberts, (who’s currently a comic book writer) and Glyph Award Winner. He asked me to throw my hat in the ring regarding a Zombie Anthology that he’s involved with. My first response was “No”! I'm in the middle of writing the Volume II of “The GOD Maps”, and releasing my own comic book adaptation of that same name. I mean, I love horror, Zombies and all that, but I felt that the parameters are too tight for me to try. Marcus, was adamant about me at least making an effort…so I did.”
SL: How was your first story received?
Kendall: “Several member’s of my friend's organization was floored at my unusual take on Zombies. The first offering is an origin-story regarding a woman named “Flax” and a zombie named “Hank Hanson”. The story is set in the South, and the premise regarding Hank’s food source is quite polarizing!”
SL: So, Are you writing for their publisher or are you self-publishing?
Kendall: “I was going to publish my entire catalogue this major publisher but I thought better of it (for the moment). I may still contribute at least one offering to them, but my ultimate decision is to publish "The American Zombie Chronicles" under my own company “Element 99 Publishing”.”
SL: How is the publishing process going for you?
Kendall: “Really well! People seem to love the work that we're doing! Hearing the words "New, Fresh and Innovative" tossed in my direction is never a bad thing (lol)! I'm fundraising now with an Indiegogo campaign to expedite printing and publishing. Securing funding is key to getting a stellar product to fans on time!”
SL: Are there any more projects that you care to share?
Kendall: “Actually, Yes! When I began the Zombie comics, I learned that there aren't many stories and imagery for children. Right at that moment, I was inspired to write a Zombie Children's Collection that's in the works as well.”
SL: We look forward to reading your entire catalog in the future. How can interested parties find you?
Kendall: “Thank you! For now, anyone that may be interested in reading my current published novel. They at visit www.thegodmaps.com or just search the title "The GOD Maps" , Volume One at Amazon or Barnes & Noble. The audiobook for that title is available as well at Audible, iTunes and Amazon. We hope to have "The American Zombie Chronicles" published by Halloween 2020.”
