Downtown Davenport is nestled along a gorgeous and unique portion of the Mississippi River where the water flows East to West. On eve of Fourth of July, the Skybridge glows in patriotic colors and provides one of the best views on the entire riverfront from high above!
Tonight, at the American Birthday Party on the bank of Mississippi River, I think of American Route One “US Route 1”, a major north–south U.S. Highway that serves the East Coast of the United States.
After exiting the District into Maryland, US Route 1 follows the Baltimore-Washington Boulevard, the first of several modern highways built along the Baltimore-Washington corridor. US 1 runs through the University of Maryland at College Park campus in College Park, Maryland, where I celebrated my first Fourth of July twenty-six years ago.
On eve of Fourth of July in 1992, I was on my way to University of Maryland at College Park, where I received my PhD, Reliability Engineering in 1995. On that very evening, I asked another Asian student, “where is University of Maryland?” He pointed to another side of US Route 1: “by American Route One.”
Tonight, at the American Birthday Party on the bank of Mississippi River, I think of “American Route One”, where my Route to PhD, Reliability Engineering, the highest academic degree in Reliability Engineering, started on eve of Fourth of July twenty-six years ago. With that privilege, I have authored/coauthored eight engineering books, including Industrial Engineering Design: Inventive Problem Solving, which was featured as ISE Magazine May 2017 Book of the Month.
