American Airlines is close to finalizing a deal for approximately 100 narrowbody jets from Airbus and Boeing . Airbus is likely to secure a slightly larger portion of the order. The deal may include Airbus A321 and Boeing 737 MAX 8 jets, with the possibility of including Boeing's 737 MAX 10 pending certification delays. This move is partly driven by Airbus's limited production slots and competition, with United Airlines also in talks with Airbus for a significant order to replace Boeing 737 MAX 10s. Bloomberg initially reported that Airbus is expected to receive a larger share of the order. The airline industry's plans for 2024 were disrupted after a recent Boeing crisis involving an accident with an Alaska Airlines 737 MAX jet. American Airlines had been considering orders from Boeing, Airbus, and Embraer for deliveries in 2027 and beyond, with awareness of Boeing's ongoing issues. American Airlines declined to provide specific details, referencing previous comments by its Chief Financial Officer, while Airbus chose not to comment and Boeing directed inquiries to American Airlines.
