America Under Donald Trump
Today marks the fifth full day of President Donald Trump. In his first 100 days, he's promising big changes.
After the President took the Oath of Office on Friday, he made good on two campaign promises: signing and executive order on Obamacare and issuing a memorandum freezing all last-minute regulations ordered by Former President Obama until all are thoroughly reviewed by the Trump Administration. President Trump has also mended fences with the Intelligence Community.
During his campaign, he developed a lengthy list of first days promises, including a border wall, stopping funding to "sanctuary cities," and suspending the admission of Syrian refugees. Trump also promised to get rid of gun-free zones at schools, and executive orders on trade.
President Trump is coming into office with the poorest approval ratings of any President in modern times. With the great divide in the country, can he bring Congress along on his agenda?
I hope that President Trump does well for our country's sake, as our President and leader we should hope that his success is for the betterment of our nation. But if Trump wants the support of the American people, he must be a President for all of us, not just for his votes. He must show real action, plans, and policies. Trump came into power castigating politicians for what he termed 'all talk, no action,' but already we are seeing this from Trump himself. His executive order on the Affordable Care Act provided for no actions and supplied no guidance, just posturing. Furthermore, Trump has not expanded his rhetoric to reach out to all Americans, he still talks as if he is in campaign mode, particularly in regards to his continued lies and falsehoods about voter fraud.
I hope for our President's success, but he must be a President for all Americans. He must strive to bring America together, and not to continue to drive us apart.
