America Must Heed Our Divine Mandate: "One Nation Under God"
Acquire wisdom—how much better it is than gold! And acquire understanding—it is preferable to silver. Proverbs 16:16
Read the verses preceding verse 16. The Lord clearly expects that all decisions made by the ones in authority should be completely honest. A leader is not to filter decisions or judgments based upon his or her own biases or the influence of others that could be of personal benefit. The Lord expects leaders to treat others equally fair in all decisions or judgments, because ultimately it is the Lord who will exercise divine authority judging the motives behind all actions and attitudes of every leader.
There is another side to this divine mandate: Our leaders must not allow anything but what is approved by the Lord to establish the standard of what is deemed fair, just, and right, even it appears that the mandate of the people conflicts with the divine mandate. A leader must set aside what seems to be the popular opinion to formulate a fair, just, and right decision. Righteous leaders are those who clearly place God’s will, ways, and wisdom as the foundation off all their decisions affecting others. They exhibit a clear understanding of truth, not the fickleness and self-serving standards of people.
Especially in America, our elected leaders should cease being influenced by special interest groups promoting self-serving mandates, and return America to being One Nation Under God, as desired by our Founding Father. Being “under God” simply requires from the White House to Main Street that God’s divine mandate is the foremost mandate guiding all our leaders. When we return to being “One Nation Under God,” our elected leaders will no longer offer sanctuary to greedy, self-serving, power-seeking special interest groups or individuals. Rather, under God’s mandate, all leaders will understand what servant-leadership truly means. Leadership should never offer a path for individuals to become richer and more powerful at the expense of the people. Rather, those who enter a leadership with a servant’s heart, God will bless with a wisdom far more valuable than any wealth one could harvest with a greedy heart.
Under One Nation Under God: Everyone must submit to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except from God, and those that exist are instituted by God. So then, the one who resists the authority is opposing God’s command, and those who oppose it will bring judgment on themselves. For rulers are not a terror to good conduct, but to bad. Do you want to be unafraid of the authority? Do good and you will have its approval. For government is God’s servant to you for good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, because it does not carry the sword for no reason. For government is God’s servant, an avenger that brings wrath on the one who does wrong. (Romans 13:1-4)
