From the very beginning of my working career as a trainee investment portfolio manager, company & economic analyst some 30+ years ago, it was drummed into me that ‘if America gets a cough, the rest of the world is going to get ill as well’.
I find the events of this week in the US to be of enormous concern. Firstly, the presidential debate was agonising. After 10 minutes, I could not bear to watch Biden’s horrific performance for another minute, so I switched-off, only to tune-in later to find that my views were unanimously shared across the world. Biden’s dismal performance not only failed America’s democracy, but I believe put the rest of the democratic world at considerable risk.
Then, yesterday the American Supreme Court passed-down its ruling on Presidential Immunity. The extremely tainted and partisan judges ruled 6 – 3 along party (allegiance) lines in favour of Presidential Immunity for ‘Official Acts’, as well as a Presumption of Immunity for all acts. This unprecedented decision has essentially put America’s ~240-year democracy at considerable risk, and for the first time in American history put the President well above and beyond the Rule-of-Law, paving the way for would-be tyrannical dictators.
There are so many problems with this, that one does not know where to start, besides to highlight and take careful note of the massive ‘train-smash’ that [I believe] is taking place before our very eyes.

Again, in my opinion, and that’s all that this is, Donald Trump is currently the World’s single largest geopolitical and existential threat. Should he be bestowed with a second presidential term come November, American will never be the same again, certainly not in my lifetime.
You may say, that’s not my problem and there’s nothing I can do about it. Make no mistake, a Donald Trump dictatorship will leave the World feeling like it just caught Pneumonia. I could, but I’m not going to connect the various dots for you all the way from what happens in American Politics, to the American Economy, to international relations and dynamics, to economies across the entire World, to monetary, currency and commodity markets and prices, through all levels of business, ultimately ending-up in the household and wallet of the ordinary person. ?Just know, that the election of Donald Trump as King in perpetuity will send negative shockwaves across the entire world, leaving no one untouched.
Following this very closely as I do, it’s my suggestion that America is at breaking point, and either something historical is going to happen between now and November, or King Donald Trump is going to be anointed, and America and the World will set-off down a very different, enormously uncertain and unpredictable path from that point-on.
Small-to-Medium Business-Owners, Leaders and Entrepreneurs, what to think and do about this, I leave that up to you to work out, given your unique situation and circumstances, however I leave you with this thought – Move what’s happening in America, and the potential re-election of Donald Trump right to the top of your list of risks to keep a watchful eye on, and to put mitigation measures in place for.

8 个月Contentious but very well put Doug Verley. I am awe that the Biden situation (someone that incapable of speech let alone debate) is so dogmatic about hanging in there with his party's full support, let alone another 4 years in office. And the King Trump possibility fills me with dread. If we thought the Capitol riot was a disgrace, then it will pale in comparison when he is above the law completely, I don't think we can comprehend what this guy will do as a dictator. The future of democracy is under threat.
