AMD Announces World’s Largest FPGA-Based Adaptive SoC for Emulation and Prototyping

AMD announced the?AMD Versal? Premium VP1902?adaptive system-on-chip (SoC), an emulation-class, chiplet-based device designed to improve?the efficiency when verifying complex semiconductor designs.

Per the company, the VP1902 adaptive SoC is the world’s largest?1?adaptive SoC offering 2X?2?the capacity over the prior generation, enabling the transformation and validation of application-specific integrated circuits (ASICs) and SoC designs.

Raspberry Pi Pico PWM Audio Output Circuit

As discussed in class 7 of my?Developing with Pi series, Sound and Music Output with the Raspberry Pi RP2040 Pico, and?the Raspberry Pi Pico/RP2040 is a rather impressive sound source. Not only is it able to generate programmatic beeps and boops as you might expect from an Arduino Uno and the like, but it can also play uncompressed WAV files, as well as compressed MP3s. The big restriction is that the Pico only has 2MB of Flash memory, though the RP2040 can work with up 16MB, allowing for a bit more room depending on your board. Read more.

Renesas Collaborates with Altium on PCB Design Acceleration

Renesas Electronics has standardized development of all printed-circuit board (PCB) designs on the Altium 365 cloud-based software. The platform assists in collaboration between all stakeholders providing IP security and revision control simultaneously. Chris Allexandre ,?Senior Vice President, CSMO and Head of the Global Sales and Marketing Unit at Renesas said, “The ECAD tool migration is an important step in our journey, and we look forward to continuing collaboration and to strengthening our partnership with Altium.” Read more.
