AMC Theatres: My Story

AMC Theatres: My Story

Heart racing with excitement, palms sweating, and popcorn spilling everywhere. You might think I'm describing an intense scene of an action movie but this is how I would describe my first day at AMC Theatres.

My very first day I started my career at AMC Theatres helping with an associate screening for STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS. This employee benefit would be the first of many that I would help coordinate as I progressed my career over the past two years. During my first role, I assisted the Corporate Communications and Events team with various associate screenings, which are private screenings that  allow family, friends, and AMC Theatre Support Center (TSC) associates to see new films together in the same theatre with complimentary refreshments. A large part of my initial role was to help with the planning of Connections, the annual AMC conference which gathers general managers from AMC’s theatres nationwide, associates from the TSC and along with the CEO and other executive committee members. The opportunity to help with the planning of this large-scale conference was a thrilling experience that allowed me to travel to Dallas, which I had never been to before for a site visit as well as the actual meeting. Taking on the responsibility of various projects like coordinating the live stream videos of the conference presentations from Dallas to TSC associates in Leawood, Kan. for the first time was a daunting task at first but it was amazing new experience that helped me improve my technical knowledge and communication skills. Moreover, it provided an opportunity for me to collaborate with associates across various departments in the company.

After my experience with the Corporate Communications and Events team, I worked with our National Group Sales team to identify potential sales opportunities. I interreacted with clients, vendors, and theatre management to  implement programs and events. This responsibility was new and exciting because the National Group Sales team was relatively a new initiative and in my role, I contributed to process improvements and revenue generation for the company.

In my current role in Film Programming I support the screenings team  which helps manage publicity events for the various studios across the United States. In this role, I work more closely with our studio partners to help communicate and coordinate between marketing agencies who manage the onsite execution of the events, the theatre teams who represent AMC theaters, and the studios who book these various events. On the screenings team, my knowledge of the film industry grew as I became more involved with the booking and planning of events ranging from promotional initiatives to research and press screenings.

Throughout my career with AMC, I helped run programs and manage accounts that challenged me to go beyond what I imagined possible for myself. I have become a subject matter expert in an industry which used to be something that I would only dream about being a part of and now it’s a reality. Like the movies where storylines sometimes go off track and go into unpredictable waters, I found myself becoming immersed and involved on a career path that I truly love. I’m proud of the experiences that I have gained throughout my career.

It's amazing to see how our paths can change so unpredictably. What a great story--beautifully written!

Love your story, and love AMC. I have found that AMC offers a challenging, fun work environment where as long as you have the motivation and drive to improve and succeed the sky is the limit.
