OUR FIRST NEWSLETTER ??

?? Welcome to our inaugural newsletter, and let's dive straight into a topic that's not only close to my heart but one that has profoundly shaped my recent perspectives - the intriguing interplay between ambition and vision.

I recently had the privilege of hearing State Representative Maurice West speak at the H.A.R.K.I.N.S. fundraiser. An amazing public servant who endured the sting of defeat multiple times in his early career, West openly shared his experiences with depression and even contemplating stepping away from politics. But amidst these challenging times, he chose to embrace failure as a stepping stone rather than a stumbling block, echoing the powerful principles championed by Ryan Leak (whose book, by the way, is a must-read!) .

The essence of West's journey was not just about his ambition to win an election but the broader vision that kept him anchored during his toughest moments. His perseverance, despite facing internal and external challenges, struck a chord with me, particularly as I navigate my own experiences with anxiety, self-doubt, and imposter syndrome. It served as a powerful reminder that our battles, as daunting as they may be, are a part of our journey towards growth and self-discovery.

As such, I was inspired to not only continue my journey in spite of these challenges but also share these experiences and insights with all of you, in the hope that it might provide some solace or guidance in your own personal and professional endeavors.

So, as we venture into the depths of ambition and vision, I extend my heartfelt thanks to Representative Maurice West. Your leadership and openness have ignited new understanding and hope within me, and for that, I am deeply grateful.

In this journey, remember, ambition might spur us on, but it is vision that truly guides us. Together, let's explore these concepts and more in the upcoming editions of this newsletter.

Ambition vs. Vision

There's often a thin, indistinguishable line between ambition and vision. Both drive our motivations, actions, and decisions, but understanding the nuanced difference between the two can fundamentally change the trajectory of our professional and personal lives.

Ambition is a powerful motivator. It’s the engine that drives us to achieve more, to stretch our capabilities, to reach for that next rung on the ladder. Ambition gives us the competitive edge, the grit to overcome obstacles, and the persistence to keep going when things get tough. But unchecked, ambition can become a blind pursuit of success for its own sake, detached from any larger purpose or context.

Vision, on the other hand, is the compass that guides us. It's not about what we want to achieve for ourselves, but rather what we aspire to create for others and for the world. Vision is the embodiment of our values, our purpose, and the change we wish to make. It's the guiding star that keeps us aligned with our core, and helps us to make decisions and take actions that not only benefit us but also the community we serve. ??

Operating from a place of vision rather than pure ambition means aligning our actions with our greater purpose. It means making decisions that not only drive our success, but also contribute to a larger cause. It's about understanding that real achievement lies not just in attaining our goals, but also in the journey, the growth, and the positive impact we make along the way.

So, as we stride into this new month, let’s evaluate: Are we operating from a place of ambition or vision? Are we creating value, not just for ourselves, but for our team, our organization, and our community? It's time to turn ambition into vision-driven action. Let's be the change we wish to see, and create a future we're all proud to be a part of.

In the words of Maurice A. West II "Be Bolder, Faster & Stronger."
